Steel River est un groupe canadien formé à Toronto à la fin des années 60, actif principalement entre 1969 et 1974. À l'origine connu sous le nom de The Toronto Shotgun, le groupe adopte finalement le nom de Steel River pour refléter une énergie plus puissante et une identité musicale plus affirmée. Actifs à une époque où des groupes comme The Guess Who ou April Wine se faisaient également un nom, Steel River incarne cette scène musicale canadienne en pleine explosion, mais encore trop méconnue à l'international à l'époque.

Steel River was a Canadian band formed in Toronto at the end of the 1960s, active primarily between 1969 and 1974. Originally known as The Toronto Shotgun, the group adopted the name Steel River to reflect a more powerful energy and musical identity. Active during the same time as groups like The Guess Who and April Wine, Steel River is part of a vibrant Canadian music scene that was still largely unknown internationally at the time.

The band is particularly known for its unique blend of hard blues rock, light progressive rock, and powerful soul rock. Lead vocalist John Dudgeon's expressive, powerful voice, and Bob Forrester’s omnipresent keyboards are key elements of their sound. Their two albums, "Weighin’ Heavy" (1970) and "A Better Road" (1971), have become staples of vintage psych-blues rock.
