Hittin’ the Note, released on March 18, 2003, is the Allman Brothers Band’s twelfth and final true studio album, through Sanctuary/Peach Records . It notably features slide virtuoso Derek Trucks and bassist Oteil Burbridge, alongside Warren Haynes returning full-time after Dickey Betts’s exit. Produced by Michael Barbiero and Haynes, it is acclaimed as their strongest studio effort since Eat a Peach, driven by Trucks's playing and the band's tight rhythmic interplay.

Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina - Mother Lode (1974)

Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina form a brilliant couple of musicians in the line of Simon & Garfunkel and Seals & Crofts. Their Mother Lode album offers a kind of soft-rock-pop-country-tinged jazzy color and sometimes oriental sounds, with a rich instrumentation mandolin, violin, flute, sax, horn ... even if sometimes complex, it is still tasty, simple, refined, precise and full of fantasy. Each song has its own characteristics, its own finesse, always with elegance. The group is highly complementary in terms of harmonies. This record of impeccable musicianship, may surprise with its originality but it is one of the very best of the duo Loggins & Messina.

Kenny Loggins et Jim Messina forme un brillant couple de musiciens dans la lignée des Simon & Garfunkel et Seals & Crofts. Leur album Mother Lode propose une sorte de soft-rock-pop-country teinté de couleur jazzy et parfois de sonorités orientales, doté d'une instrumentation riche en mandoline, violon, flûte, sax, cor... Même si c'est parfois complexe, cela reste savoureux, sobre, raffiné, précis et plein de fantaisie. Chaque chanson a sa particularité, sa propre finesse, toujours avec élégance. Le groupe est très complémentaire au niveau des harmonies. Ce disque, d'une musicalité irréprochable, peut surprendre par son originalité mais il constitue l'une des toutes meilleures productions du duo Loggins & Messina.

James Taylor, né en 1948 en Virginie, est l’une des voix majeures du folk rock américain et un pionnier du style "soft rock" intimiste. Après un premier album éponyme discret, il connaît un succès commercial et critique avec Sweet Baby James, son deuxième album sorti en 1970. Produit par Peter Asher, l’album mêle chansons mélodiques et textes introspectifs, où la voix douce et apaisante de Taylor se déploie sur des arrangements acoustiques subtils. Le titre phare, "Sweet Baby James", est une berceuse dédiée à son neveu, tandis que "Fire and Rain", un témoignage poignant sur ses luttes personnelles, devient un hymne intemporel. Cet album, aux sonorités folk chaleureuses, marque le début d’une carrière longue et influente, incarnant parfaitement l’ambiance musicale californienne de l’époque.

L'album qui a lancé un millier de chanteurs/compositeurs au grand coeur, Sweet Baby James peut éventuellement être considéré comme la première salve de la douce révolution du début des années 70.
