Orang-Utan est un groupe britannique éphémère qui n’a laissé derrière lui qu’un unique album éponyme, paru en 1971 aux États-Unis sur le label Bell Records, mais jamais officiellement publié au Royaume-Uni. Le groupe, initialement nommé Hunter, est formé autour du guitariste Mick Clarke, figure majeure de cette courte aventure. Leur musique s’inscrit dans un hard rock énergique et musclé, typique du tournant des années 70, mêlant riffs puissants, solos acérés et une rythmique vigoureuse. Avec ses guitares à la Cream ou Led Zeppelin, sa voix râpeuse et ses compositions nerveuses, Orang-Utan s’impose comme un témoignage brut et captivant de la scène underground londonienne de l’époque, injustement oublié pendant des décennies.

Orang-Utan was a short-lived British hard rock band whose only self-titled album was released in 1971 in the U.S. by Bell Records, though it was never issued in their native UK. Originally known as Hunter, the group was led by guitarist Mick Clarke, whose ferocious playing is at the heart of their sound. The album delivers high-octane early ’70s hard rock with gritty vocals, thunderous drumming, and searing guitar work reminiscent of Cream and Led Zeppelin. Though obscure for years, Orang-Utan has since become a cult classic among collectors of heavy psych and proto-metal.

A Passing Fancy - A Passing Fancy (1968)

Formed in 1967 and originally known as The dimensions, this training has been built around the talents of singer / guitarist and bassist Jay Telfer Fergus Hambleton. Produced by John Cirvine, this album is the result of the compilation of sides A and B of the previous four singles with four new tracks: 'Island', 'Your Trip', 'Little Boys for Girls' and 'Under The Bridge'. This compilation is very varied, the group with flexibility similar to that of the chameleon. Titles like 'I'm Losing Tonight' and 'People In Me' is pure garage rock. Very catchy, 'Believe In Sunshine' and 'Island displayed their pop vocation and squint into the Top 40, while' You're Going Out of My Mind 'and' Spread Out 'immerse us in the psychedelic rock. A Passing Fancy had strong assets for drilling but unfortunately was not properly supported by his label Boo, unable to defend the album for national distribution (thus it is relatively rare and the exorbitant asking price). And even if the LP has received very positive reviews, the band split in the year following its publication.

Formée en 1967 et initialement connue sous le nom The Dimensions, cette formation a été construite autour des talents du chanteur/guitariste Jay Tefler et du bassiste Fergus Hambleton.

Produit par John Cirvine, cet album est le résultat de la compilation des faces A et B des quatre singles précédents avec quatre nouvelles pistes : 'Island', 'Your Trip', 'Little Boys for Little Girls' et 'Under The Bridge'. Cette compilation est très variée, le groupe présentant une adaptabilité proche de celle du caméléon. Des titres comme 'I'm Losing Tonight' et 'People In Me' sont du pur rock garage. Très accrocheurs, 'Believe In Sunshine' et' Island affichent leur vocation pop et louchent vers le Top 40, tandis que 'You're Going Out of My Mind' et 'Spread Out' nous immergent dans le dans le rock psychédélique. A Passing Fancy avait de solides atouts pour percer mais n'a malheureusement pas été correctement soutenu par son label Boo, incapable défendre l'album pour une diffusion nationale (ainsi est-il relativement rare et le prix demandé exorbitant). Et même si le LP a reçu des avis très positifs, le groupe a splitté dans l'année qui a suivi sa parution.
