Mad Dog - Dawn Of The Seventh Sun (1969)

Heavy/psychedelic/West Coast  music of the highest order, recorded in 1969, but unreleased at the time. Only released in a quantity of a couple of copies to get a major record deal that never materialized. Three of the songs were used in a low-budget biker flick called Black Angels. The original demo LP had only a plain black label with no kinds of credits.

Musique heavy / psychédélique / West Coast du plus haut niveau, enregistrée en 1969, mais inédite à l'époque. Seulement publiée en quelques exemplaires pour obtenir un contrat d'enregistrement majeur qui ne s'est jamais matérialisé. Trois des chansons ont été utilisées dans un film de biker à petit budget appelé Black Angels. Le LP de démonstration originale avait seulement une étiquette noire simple sans aucun genre de crédits.

Majic Ship was riginally composed of a group of high school friends: Ray Rifice (guitar), Tommy Nikosy (guitar), Rob Buckman (drums), and Mike Garrigan (vocals). Soon, the band increased to a group of five with the addition of bassist/organist Gus Riozzi. This album is 9 original recordings and one Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young medley , originally recorded and released in an extremely limited supply. This 1970 LP represents their musical pinnacle as a garage band turned pop band and then into something mixing hard rock with tinges of psychedelia. It truly was their masterpiece!

Majic Ship était rigoureusement composé d'un groupe d'amis du lycée: Ray Rifice (guitare), Tommy Nikosy (guitare), Rob Buckman (batterie) et Mike Garrigan (chant). Zephyr - Zephyr (1969)

Formed in 1968/69 in Boulder, Colorado by guitarist Tommy Bolin, keyboardist John Faris, bassist David Givens, drummer Robbie Chamberlin and vocalist Candy Givens, this band was totally innovative with roots in jazz, blues and they had all the right moves to take them to the top. Zephyr’s two unsung Rock Heroes; Tommy Bolin and Candy Givens, like Hendrix, Joplin and Morrison took on the mystique and in order to evolve they had to move on.

Formé en 1968/69 à Boulder, au Colorado, par le guitariste Tommy Bolin, le claviériste John Faris, le bassiste David Givens, le batteur Robbie Chamberlin et la chanteuse Candy Givens, ce groupe était totalement novateur avec des racines jazz, blues et avait vraiment tout pour l'amener au sommet. Du rock bluesy comme Savoy Brown, May Blitz, Rare Earth, John Mayall, etc. Le bassiste était un homme de session bien connu, Herbie Flowers qui était également bassiste pour Sky. Le chanteur est Peter Lee Stirling qui a plusieurs albums du début au milieu des années 60 publiés sous son propre nom. Ce premier album est un bon rock bluesy avec des solos d'orgue et de guitare.

Sorti en 1970, Rumplestiltskin est le seul album du groupe britannique du même nom, évoluant dans un style psychédélique teinté de rock progressif et de blues. Ce disque capture une atmosphère sombre et intense, avec des compositions complexes mêlant guitares puissantes, claviers planants et une voix expressive. The Moon - Without Earth (1967)

With Larry Brown, West Coast run producer on drums, and Andy Bennett on bass, The Moon had just about everything to succeed. In fact the debut album Without Earth, filled with harpsichord, sitaring sounds and other whipped string ascents was completely in line with its year, 1967. Especially, playful compositions backed up by lush arrangements make this album a top of baroque pop.

Avec Larry Brown, producteur couru de la West Coast, à la batterie, et Andy Bennett à la basse, The Moon avait à peu près tout pour réussir. De fait le premier album Without Earth, rempli de clavecin, sonorités sitarisantes et autres montées de cordes chantilly était complètement raccord avec son année, 1967. Surtout, les compositions enjouées soutenues par des arrangements foisonnants font de cet album un sommet de pop baroque.

Southern Comfort - Frog City (1971)

With connections to psych legends Harsh Reality, Marmalade, Smile and Spooky Tooth, Southern Comfort had already weaved a web of their own in the annals of rock music as well as achieving a number one single with "Woodstock." Frog City was the band's heavily impressive second LP from 1971, establishing the band in their own right and revealing a plethora of musical talent that had sprung from the psychedelic underground in the late '60s.

One would think that Hendrix, though dead for two years when Black Kangaroo (1972), was exhumed from his tomb to play the ubiquitous guitar lines and hallucinated wha-howled solos. Such is the spirit of this fabulous record that is essential not only for those who tinker in the heavy psyche register, but for all passionate about good and real incandescent rock.
