Magic Mixture - This Is Magic Mixture (1968)

The Magic Mixture were one of dozens of psychedelic bands making the rounds of London's rock clubs in 1968, though they were the only ones who recorded an album for Saga Records, a cut-rate classical label who were making a brief foray into pop music. The group's first and only album, This Is the Magic Mixture, is prized by collectors for its rarity, but as music it's interesting and pleasing without being especially remarkable.

Michele - Saturn Rings (1969)

Here's a haunting charmer that slipped through the cracks decades ago, fully deserving of rediscovery now. Fans of The Ballroom may be disappointed , because Michele O'Malley's solo album ventures into slightly different, slightly darker territory, where regrets & loss often turn into deep longing & pain. Michele's self-penned songs especially have this intense quality, which plays well as counterpoint to the bittersweet sunshine pop she was associated with prior to this album.

Voici un disque envoûtant qui a échappé aux fissures du temps, méritant pleinement la redécouverte maintenant. Les fans de The Ballroom seront peut-être déçus, car l'album solo de Michele O'Malley s'aventure dans un territoire légèrement différent, légèrement plus sombre, où les regrets et la perte se transforment souvent en désir profond. British supgergroup featuring former Atomic Rooster band members John Du Cann and Paul Hammonds plus John Gustafson (Big Three, Merseybeats and Quatermass), Bullet was formed in 1970 and set about recording songs in written by either Du Cann or Gustafson and promptly got themselves a recording deal with the now infamous Purple Records. Problem was there was already another group in existence then from the USA called Bullet and there was a threat of legal action so the band promptly changed their name to Hard Stuff and re recorded some of the Bullet tracks for their first release.

Supgergroup britannique réunissant certains membres d'Atomic Rooster (John Du Cann, Paul Hammonds et John Gustafson venant respectivement de Big Three, Merseybeats et Quatermass), Bullet a été formé en 1970 et a commencé à enregistrer des chansons écrites par Du Cann ou Gustafson et s'est rapidement fait enregistrer avec le désormais infâme Purple Records. Le problème était qu'il existait déjà un autre groupe des États-Unis appelé Bullet et qu'il y avait une menace de recours, le groupe a alors rapidement changé son nom en Hard Stuff et a enregistré quelques morceaux de Bullet pour leur première production.

Mu - Lemurian Music (1972)

Lemurian Music (1974 UK first issue 9-track LP, the second album from the second psychedelic band Mu featuring Merrell Fankhauser & Jeff Cotton. Jeff later joined Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. The sound of Mu is a wholly unique mix of psychedelic rock and rhythm and blues. The interlocking rhythms and primal pulse of the Captain’s music show its influence.

Lemurian Music (1974), premier album 9 titres du deuxième groupe psychédélique Mu mettant en vedette Merrell Fankhauser et Jeff Cotton, lesquels rejoignent par la suite le Magic Band de Captain Beefheart. Crown of Creation has its share of excellent moments which reflect the kind of creative rock we have come to expect from the Airplane. For instance, the use of acoustic guitars (sometimes mixed with electric guitars) on several tracks is noteworthy, especially in the case of Balin and Kantner's "In Time." On "In Time" Kaukonen, Jack Casady, and Kantner spin a gentle yet complex web that surrounds Kantner's vocal; here also Grace does a beautiful job of vocal embellishment, an object lesson to all practitioners of the art.
