Epsilon - Epsilon (1971)

Epsilon is a German prog rock band formed by former members of Orange Peel and Nosferatu. Working first as the Carthage and with a repertoire made nice compositions, they radically change when joined former guitarist / vocalist Michael WIinskowski Nosferatu. And as another group called Carthage existed in Berlin, they take the name of Epsilon. Typical of Marburg groups (Pell Mell, Frame, etc.) Epsilon was largely inspired by classical music in an original and complex progressive rock, but very differently from their British and Italian counterparts, in a very unusual way and original.

Epsilon est un groupe de prog rock allemand formé par des ex membres d'Orange Peel et de Nosferatu. Travaillant d'abord sous le nom de Carthage et avec un répertoire fait des compositions de Nice, ils changent radicalement lorsque les rejoint l'ex guitariste/chanteur Michael WIinskowski de Nosferatu. Et comme un autre groupe appelé Carthage existait à Berlin, ils prennent le nom d'Epsilon. 

Typique des groupes de Marburg (Pell Mell, Frame, etc) Epsilon s'est largement inspiré de la musique classique dans un rock progressif original et complexe, mais de manière très différente de leurs homologues britanniques ou italiens, d'une manière très inhabituelle et originale.

Epitaph est un groupe allemand formé à Dortmund en 1969, mêlant habilement rock progressif, hard rock et touches psychédéliques. Bien que germanique, le groupe chante en anglais et adopte une esthétique résolument anglo-saxonne, tant sur le plan musical que visuel. Leur premier album éponyme, paru en 1971, se caractérise par des guitares incisives, des harmonies vocales raffinées et une production puissante. Très influencé par le rock britannique de la fin des sixties, Epitaph s’impose comme l’un des pionniers du hard rock allemand, aux côtés de groupes comme Jane ou Lucifer’s Friend.

🎸 Ashbury - Endless Skies (1983)

Ashbury is essentially a duo but the group has integrated episodically several other members. The group was originally formed by Randy and Rob Davisen in 1980 in Tucson, Arizona. Together with drummer Dave Carpenter, guitarist and bassist Lee Smith Noal Morris, they released the album Endless Skies in 1983. The band's sound is close to that of Wishbone Ash with a southern rock coloration, with a few minor epic metal keys.

Ashbury est essentiellement un duo mais le groupe a intégré épisodiquement plusieurs autres membres. Le groupe a été formé initialement par Randy et Rob Davisen en 1980 à Tucson, Arizona. En collaboration avec le batteur Dave Carpenter, le guitariste Lee Smith et le bassiste Noal Morris, ils ont sorti l'album Endless Skies en 1983. Le son du groupe est proche de celui de Wishbone Ash avec une coloration rock sudiste, agrémenté de quelques légères touches de métal épique.

Arena - Contagion (2003)

Arena is a British group of neo-progressive rock founded in 1995 by Clive Nolan and Mick Pointer. Contagion is an album of exceptional musical quality. The sound of Arena is rather original and quite modern because like bands like Porcupine Tree, for example, sometimes it sounds almost metal ('Witch Hunt', 'Painted Man') and more aggressive than most current progressive rock bands.

Arena est un groupe britannique de rock néo-progressif fondé en 1995 par Clive Nolan et Mick Pointer. Contagion est un album d'une qualité musicale exceptionnelle. Le son d'Arena est plutôt original, et assez moderne puisqu'à l'instar de groupes comme Porcupine Tree, par exemple, il sonne parfois presque metal ('Witch Hunt', 'Painted Man') et plus agressif que la plupart des groupes de rock progressif actuels.

Anyone's Daughter - Danger World (2010)

This German prog rock group of the 70's reappeared after years of inactivity. The current formation of Anyone's Daughter is not in fact a re-training, but the new group of Matthias Ulmer, was joined Uwe Karpa. As they did not have a fairly extensive repertoire for concerts and they were well complemented by old songs, he resumed the group name, history attract some fans more ... We also learn that the singer original Harald Bareth is now a doctor and he sometimes sings as a guest on the albums of Ines, but he is too busy to join the new group ... there was of course some distance the spirit of prog rock so Yes and Genesis approach for the Asia and the AOR FM rock Foreigner or Toto, but the quality is still there.

Ce groupe de prog rock allemand des 70's réapparaît après de nombreuses années d'inactivité. La formation actuelle d’Anyone’s Daughter n’est en fait pas une re-formation, mais bien le nouveau groupe de Matthias Ulmer, auquel s’est joint Uwe Karpa. Comme ils ne possédaient pas un répertoire assez étendu pour faire des concerts et qu’ils devaient bien compléter par d’anciens morceaux, il reprirent le nom du groupe, histoire d’attirer quelques fans de plus... On apprend aussi que le chanteur d’origine Harald Bareth est désormais médecin et qu’il chante quelquefois, en invité, sur les albums d’Ines, mais qu’il est trop occupé pour se joindre au nouveau groupe... On s'est bien entendu quelque peu éloigné de l'esprit prog rock façon Yes et Genesis pour approcher l'AOR d'Asia et le rock FM de Foreigner ou de Toto, mais la qualité est toujours là.
