Fondé aux Pays-Bas en 1968 par les frères Koerts, Earth & Fire est l’un des groupes phares du rock progressif néerlandais. Leur quatrième album, Atlantis (1973), est un concept-album ambitieux, inspiré par la légende de la cité engloutie. Avec la voix envoûtante de Jerney Kaagman, des claviers symphoniques omniprésents et des structures en plusieurs mouvements, le groupe s’éloigne ici du format pop de leurs débuts pour plonger dans une fresque progressive à la fois dramatique et poétique. L’écriture évoque à la fois Genesis et The Moody Blues, mais avec une sensibilité continentale unique. Atlantis reste une pièce maîtresse de la scène prog européenne.

Formed in the Netherlands in 1968 by the Koerts brothers, Earth & Fire became one of the key bands of Dutch progressive rock. Their fourth album, Atlantis (1973), is an ambitious concept piece based on the myth of the lost city. Featuring the haunting vocals of Jerney Kaagman, lush symphonic keyboards, and multipart compositions, the band departed from their earlier pop sensibilities to explore a more theatrical and poetic prog rock sound. Echoes of Genesis and The Moody Blues can be heard, but Earth & Fire deliver it with a distinct continental flair. Atlantis is a landmark in European symphonic prog.
