Crazy Horse ‎– At Crooked Lake (1972)

In 1970 Crazy Horse as one of the most promising new rock bands, and Neil Young enlisted the band once again to play on his third solo release, After the Gold Rush. But at the same time Young joined up with Crazy Horse, he accepted an invitation to team up with Crosby, Stills & Nash. With extended periods of time between playing with Young, Crazy Horse inked their own recording contract, resulting in their 1971 self-titled debut. Crazy Horse continued on 1972 with two others albums, Loose and At Crooked Lake.

Stillwater - Stillwater (1976)

Started in 1972 around Milledgeville, Georgia, the band quickly sign a contract with Capricorn, the label working mainly with southern rock bands. Under the influence of Buddy Buie , they'll release their first album. Stillwater had an enormous impact on the southern rock fans, playing music similar to Marshall Tucker and Atlanta Rythm Section. They'll get a solid reputation and recognition and they'll constantly be on the road with bands such as Charlie Daniels, Foreigner, The Outlaws, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Marshall Tucker Band, among others. This first album was just a pure jewel.

Commencé en 1972 autour de Milledgeville, en Géorgie, le groupe signe rapidement un contrat avec Capricorn, le label travaillant principalement avec des groupes de rock sudiste. Sous l'influence de Buddy Buie, ils sortiront leur premier album. Silver was an American 1970's country rock band, best known for their 1976 pop hit "Wham Bam," written by country songwriter Rick Giles. Members of the group included John Batdorf (formerly of Batdorf & Rodney), lead vocals and guitar; Brent Mydland (later of the Grateful Dead), keyboards and vocals; Tom Leadon (brother of the Eagles' Bernie Leadon), bass guitar and vocals; Greg Collier, guitar and vocals; and Harry Stinson, drums and percussion. Phil Hartman designed the cover art for Silver, the quintet's only album.

Cowboy - Reach For The Sky (1970)

Cowboy were an American country-rock band. Cowboy were formed in Jacksonville, Florida 1969 by guitarists Tommy Talton and Scott Boyer, both of whom had just left bands of their own - Talton had been with We The People, and Boyer with The 31st Of February. You can almost almost hear the clouds of smoke - and I ain't talkin' Lucky Strikes here - wafting about the studio.

Fraternity Of Man is the band that forms the link between Frank Zappa and The Mothers, Lowell George & The Factory, Little Feat, and Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. In its short period of existence between these ancestors, relatives and descendants, the band managed to record two albums, 'Fraternity Of Man' in 1968, and 'Get It On' in 1969, before fragmenting.

Joy Unlimited - Joy Unlimited (1970)

This 1970 album by the German group Joy Unlimited was issued under three separate titles. In Germany, it was called Overground; in the U.K., Turbulence; and, in the U.S., simply Joy Unlimited. Although the band would later go in a more progressive direction, this LP was not all that progressive in nature, and not at all like  the 1970s Krautrock movement. Instead, it was a amalgam of trends in American and British rock, pop, and soul, rather like the kind adopted by numerous bands emerging in neighboring Holland, like Shocking Blue.

Cet album de 1970 du groupe allemand Joy Unlimited a été publié sous trois titres distincts. En Allemagne, il s'appelait Overground; au Royaume-Uni, Turbulence; et, aux États-Unis, simplement Joy Unlimited. Bien que le groupe allait plus tard dans une direction plus progressive, ce LP n'était pas si progressif dans sa nature, et pas du tout comme le mouvement Krautrock des années 1970. Swampgas - Swampgas (1972)

Swampgas est un groupe Américain de Rock Psyché du début des années 70 originaire de Long Island dans l'état de New-York. En bref, il joue une sorte de Psych / Hard Rock Rural avec une guitare fluide et un orgue magistral. Ce quatuor de Rock était dirigé par le guitariste compositeur Baird Hersey, influencé par Hendrix. Le line up était composé, outre Hersey, du bassiste Jock Davis, du chanteur Kim Ornitz et du batteur Ricky Slater. Swampgas joua dans toute la région de New York. Ils furent été arrachés à l'obscurité par Artie Kornfeld, qui fut l'un des trois producteurs de Woodstock. La femme de Kornfeld les avait découvert, un jour, lors d'un concert où ils faisaient la première partie de the Gratetful Dead. 

Swampgas is an American group of Rock Psyche from the early 70's from Long Island, New York. In short, he plays a kind of Rural Psych / Hard Rock with a flowing guitar and a masterful organ. This Rock quartet was conducted by guitarist and composer Baird Hersey, influenced by Hendrix. The line up was composed, besides Hersey, bassist Jock Davis, singer Kim Ornitz and drummer Ricky Slater. Swampgas played throughout the New York area. They were pulled out in the dark by Artie Kornfeld, who was one of three Woodstock producers. Kornfeld's wife had discovered them one day at a concert where they were the first part of the Gratetful Dead.

It was in 1978 that Molly Hatchet's adventure began. When we take a look at the cover of this first self-titled album, we expect to be dealing with a heavy metal band. All false ! This American sextet evolves in the spheres of Southern rock hard and seems decided to walk in the footsteps of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Indeed, the comparison between the two groups is inevitavle when one looks more closely on this opus, especially since Molly Hatchet also plays with 3 guitarists.

C'est en 1978 que l'aventure de Molly Hatchet commence. Lorsqu'on jette un coup d'oeil sur la pochette de ce premier album éponyme, on s'attend à avoir affaire à un groupe de heavy metal pur et dur. Bad Company is an English hard rock supergroup formed in Westminster, London in 1973 by two former Free band members—singer Paul Rodgers and drummer Simon Kirke— as well as Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. Peter Grant, who managed the rock band Led Zeppelin. Straight Shooter is the second studio album by the English supergroup Bad Company. The album was released in April 2, 1975, a month after the release of the single "Good Lovin' Gone Bad" and four months before the album's second single "Feel Like Makin' Love".

Steppenwolf 7 is an album by the band Steppenwolf, released in 1970, and their fifth studio recording for Dunhill Records. It is the first Steppenwolf album with new bass player George Biondo. While the album featured Steppenwolf's trademark rock and roll sounds, none of the songs were able to make the top 40. Yet this Steppenwolf 7 is a first-rate blues rock album that recalls the style of The Doors during this same period. Yet this Steppenwolf 7 is a first-rate blues rock album that recalls the style of The Doors during this same period.

Grand Funk Railroad - Grand Funk (1969)

This disc is the best of Grand Funk Railroad. He is the one who presents the most characteristic specificities of the group (apart from the contribution of subsequent keyboards). Here we have an archetype of the so-seventh-decade trio group, with a guitar sound that approaches the sound of pure steel to a point that will never be equaled. In addition, we have an ubiquitous low frequency hum, provided by a tireless bassist and metronomic, which adds a layer to the specificity of the Grand Funk Railroad sound. We find in particular a cover of the famous "Inside Looking Out" of Animals where the rhythm and blues is lost to the benefit of a rain storm of steel in the way of a manifesto to Heavy Metal.

Ce disque est le meilleur de Grand Funk Railroad. Il est celui qui présente les spécificités les plus caractéristiques du groupe (abstraction faite de l'apport claviers de disques ultérieurs) . Nous avons là un archétype du groupe trio des années soxante-dix, avec un son de guitare qui approche le bruit de l'acier pur à un point qui ne sera jamais égalé. Par ailleurs, nous avons un vrombissement de basses fréquences omniprésent, assuré par un bassiste infatigable et métronomique, qui rajoute une couche à la spécificité du son Grand Funk Railroad. On trouve en paticulier une reprise du trés célébre "Inside Looking Out" des Animals où le rythme and blues se perd au profit d'un véritable déluge de pluie d'acier en forme de manifeste au Heavy Metal.

 Cactus is the debut album by the American hard rock band Cactus, released in 1970 under the Atco label. It includes original songs as well as cover of Mose Allison's version of a blues standard, "Parchman Farm" and another one, Willie Dixon's "You Can't Judge a Book by the Cover".“Let Me Swim” does Zeppelin better than Zeppelin, vocalist Rusty Day turning each verse into a chorus of its own, and the cool slowdown bassline from Tim Bogert makes “No Need to Worry” like a splash of cold water on the face before “Oleo” and “Feel So Good” bring the record to its good-time jamming finish.

Cactus est le premier album du groupe de hard rock américain Cactus, sorti en 1970 sous le label Atco. This "Rock On", which bears his name very well, immerses himself in a proletarian heavy-rock, callous, rough, loaded with guitars (only Gibson) with primary and pure consonances (only allowing for the natural saturation of amps Marshall and Orange), oozing a feverish Blues, and, more filigree, Soul, supported by a heavy bass and drums, supported and worked. No more pretty walks with country scents, here it is electricity that speaks.

 Ce « Rock On », qui porte très bien son nom, s'immerge dans un Heavy-rock prolétaire, calleux, rêche, chargé de guitares (only Gibson) aux consonances drues et pures (ne se parant que de la saturation naturelle des amplis Marshall et Orange), suintant un Blues fiévreux, et, plus en filigrane, de Soul, soutenu par une basse et une batterie lourdes, appuyées et travaillées. Finies les jolies ballades aux senteurs champêtres, ici c'est l'électricité qui parle.
