In 1970 Crazy Horse as one of the most promising new rock bands, and Neil Young enlisted the band once again to play on his third solo release, After the Gold Rush. But at the same time Young joined up with Crazy Horse, he accepted an invitation to team up with Crosby, Stills & Nash. With extended periods of time between playing with Young, Crazy Horse inked their own recording contract, resulting in their 1971 self-titled debut. Crazy Horse continued on 1972 with two others albums, Loose and At Crooked Lake.

Cowboy were an American country-rock band. Cowboy were formed in Jacksonville, Florida 1969 by guitarists Tommy Talton and Scott Boyer, both of whom had just left bands of their own - Talton had been with We The People, and Boyer with The 31st Of February. You can almost almost hear the clouds of smoke - and I ain't talkin' Lucky Strikes here - wafting about the studio.

Le line up était composé, outre Hersey, du bassiste Jock Davis, du chanteur Kim Ornitz et du batteur Ricky Slater. Swampgas joua dans toute la région de New York. Ils furent été arrachés à l'obscurité par Artie Kornfeld, qui fut l'un des trois producteurs de Woodstock. Swampgas is an American group of Rock Psyche from the early 70's from Long Island, New York. In short, he plays a kind of Rural Psych / Hard Rock with a flowing guitar and a masterful organ. This Rock quartet was conducted by guitarist and composer Baird Hersey, influenced by Hendrix. The line up was composed, besides Hersey, bassist Jock Davis, singer Kim Ornitz and drummer Ricky Slater. Swampgas played throughout the New York area. They were pulled out in the dark by Artie Kornfeld, who was one of three Woodstock producers. Kornfeld's wife had discovered them one day at a concert where they were the first part of the Gratetful Dead.

Released in 1972 on Buddah Records, Swampgas was an obscure American rock band that produced only one self-titled album. Based in New York, the quartet delivered a hard-edged blend of psychedelic and progressive rock, occasionally recalling early Grand Funk Railroad or Mountain. The record features gritty guitar riffs, solid bass lines, and atmospheric organ flourishes, all wrapped in a heavy but melodic sound. Though overlooked at the time, Swampgas has since become a hidden gem among collectors of obscure 70s psych and hard rock.

This disc is the best of Grand Funk Railroad. He is the one who presents the most characteristic specificities of the group (apart from the contribution of subsequent keyboards). Here we have an archetype of the so-seventh-decade trio group, with a guitar sound that approaches the sound of pure steel to a point that will never be equaled. In addition, we have an ubiquitous low frequency hum, provided by a tireless bassist and metronomic, which adds a layer to the specificity of the Grand Funk Railroad sound. We find in particular a cover of the famous "Inside Looking Out" of Animals where the rhythm and blues is lost to the benefit of a rain storm of steel in the way of a manifesto to Heavy Metal.

Ce disque est le meilleur de Grand Funk Railroad. Il est celui qui présente les spécificités les plus caractéristiques du groupe (abstraction faite de l'apport claviers de disques ultérieurs) . Nous avons là un archétype du groupe trio des années soxante-dix, avec un son de guitare qui approche le bruit de l'acier pur à un point qui ne sera jamais égalé. Par ailleurs, nous avons un vrombissement de basses fréquences omniprésent, assuré par un bassiste infatigable et métronomique, qui rajoute une couche à la spécificité du son Grand Funk Railroad. On trouve en paticulier une reprise du trés célébre "Inside Looking Out" des Animals où le rythme and blues se perd au profit d'un véritable déluge de pluie d'acier en forme de manifeste au Heavy Metal.
