Jane - Here We Are (1973)

The second long-player from German band Jane, Here We Are, was recorded under very strained circumstances. Their lead singer had just passed away, their bass player was very sick, and the band was so broke they had to borrow all the instruments they played on the recording. Still, a tasty prog-hard-rock album ensued, following on the promise of their debut if not winning over the fickle music press of the era. This is an incredible record by a wildly underappreciated band.

Leur chanteur venait de mourir, leur bassiste était très malade, et le groupe a été tellement éclaté qu'ils ont du emprunter tous les instruments qu'ils ont utilisés sur l'enregistrement. Pourtant, il s'en est suivi un album fort savoureux de prog-hard-rock, respectant en cela la promesse de leurs débuts de ne pas se laisser influencer par la presse musicale volage de l'époque. On a encore ici un enregistrement incroyable par un groupe méchamment sous-estimé.

Help - Second Coming (1971)

Help's 2nd album is probably one of the most interesting discoveries of early '70s American rock. It's heavily riff and groove based with wah pedal laced throughout. What is dismaying is the 'progressive' label; while there are psychedelic elements, specifically in the opening song, it's just a good hard rock trio in the vein of the James Gang or Budgie. It's just a fantastic slice of underappreciated American heavy psych with atight rhythm section, some beefed up boogie tracks ('Good Time Music') and even proto metal tracks ('Oh My'). 

Le 2ème album de Help est probablement l'une des découvertes les plus intéressantes du début du rock américain des années 70. Il s'appuie fortement sur une base de riffs groovy renforcés à la pédale wah-wah. La couverture annonce un son progressive rock alors que l'essentiel est plutôt psychédélique, en particulier dans la chanson d'ouverture. C'est un très bon disque d'un trio rock dans la veine de James Gang ou Budgie. Encore une tranche fantastique de heavy-psyche rock américain sous-estimée avec une section rythmique serrée, dont certaines pistes de boogie survitaminé ("Good Time Music") et même des titres proto metal ("Oh My").

The Allman Brothers - Brothers And Sisters (1973)

Released a year after Eat a Peach, Brothers and Sisters shows off a leaner brand of musicianship, which, coupled with a pair of serious crowd-pleasers, 'Ramblin' Man' and 'Jessica', helped drive it to the top of the charts for a month and a half and to platinum record sales. This was the first album to feature the group's new lineup, with Chuck Leavell on keyboards and Lamar Williams on bass, as well as Dickey Betts' emergence as a singer alongside Gregg Allman. The tracks appear on the album in the order in which they were recorded, and the first three, up through 'Ramblin' Man',  feature Berry Oakley -- their sound is rock-hard and crisp.
