Après la disparition tragique de Duane Allman en octobre 1971, puis de Berry Oakley en novembre 1972, Brothers and Sisters, sorti en août 1973, marque la résilience du groupe et sa montée au sommet du Southern rock. Produit par Johnny Sandlin et le groupe, l’album illustre une évolution vers des sonorités plus country-folk, tout en conservant leur signature blues-rock vibrante. Le piano de Chuck Leavell et la relève assumée par Dickey Betts (qui prend le rôle de leader guitare/chant) redéfinissent le son du groupe . Le disque devient leur plus grand succès commercial, passant cinq semaines en tête du Billboard 200 et s’écoulant à plus de 7 millions d’exemplaires.

Following the tragic deaths of Duane Allman in October 1971 and Berry Oakley in November 1972, Brothers and Sisters, released in August 1973, demonstrates the band’s resilience and ascent in Southern rock. Produced by Johnny Sandlin alongside the band, the album shifts toward a more country-folk orientation while retaining their vibrant blues-rock roots. Chuck Leavell’s piano and Dickey Betts’ assumption of leadership (guitar/vocals) redefine the band's sound . It became their biggest commercial success, staying five weeks atop the Billboard 200 and selling over 7 million copies .
