Lighthouse a été formé en 1968 à Toronto par le chanteur / batteur Skip Prokop (anciennement des Paupers) et le claviériste Paul Hoffert. Les deux se sont rencontrés par hasard sur un vol de New York à Toronto et ont discuté de la formation d'un groupe structuré autour d'une section rythmique rock, d'une section de cor jazz et d'une section de cordes classique.

Lighthouse was formed in 1968 in Toronto by vocalist/drummer Skip Prokop (formerly of the Paupers) and keyboardist Paul Hoffert. The two met by coincidence on a flight from New York City to Toronto, and discussed forming a band structured around a rock rhythm section, jazz horn section, and classical string section.

Rhead Brothers - The Black Shaheen (1978)

The Black Shaheen album was recorded shortly after the Dedicate album, but unfortunately it was shelved by EMI. Only a handful releases was uncovered. Recorded in the late 70’s in the legendary Wishborne studio, owned by Terry Woordford in Muscle Shoals , this album represents some of the finest smoothest, funkiest blue eyed soul’n AOR ever released. 

L'album Black Shaheen a été enregistré peu après l'album Dedicate, mais malheureusement il a été mis en suspens par EMI. Seules quelques publications ont été découvertes. Lambert And Nuttycombe - As You Will (1973)

Lambert and Nuttycombe were an acoustic folk duo from Los Angeles active 1968-1972. The duo was formed by Craig Nuttycombe and California surf musician Denis Lambert who had met in a West Coast band called The Eastside Kids. This album got some musicians' contribution : Clark Gassman (horn arrangements), Hoppy Hodges (drums), Josef Lamanno (bass), Keith Olsen (string arrangements), Peggy Sandvig (keyboards), Thomas Sellers (string arrangements) and (electric, acoustic and slide guitar).

Lambert et Nuttycombe étaient un duo folk acoustique de Los Angeles actif 1968-1972. 🎸 Stillrock - Stillrock (1969)

Stillrock was a short-lived group whose only effort featured a very pleasant collection of tunes. You can hear double and three-part harmonies , along with clever influences of the Everlys, the Beatles and a lot of Hollies (a lot), all within the boundaries of a beautiful Southern rock flavor. You can enjoy steel guitar parts, a couple of ballads with violins in the background, nice countrified mid tempos where you can even smell the grass (and also maybe a shy attempt at light psych).

Stillrock était un groupe éphémère dont le seul effort a consisté en une très agréable collection de parties musicales. Vous pouvez entendre des harmonies en double et en trois parties, ainsi que des influences éclairées des Everly, des Beatles et de beaucoup de Hollies (beaucoup), le tout dans les limites d'une belle saveur rock sudiste. Vous pouvez apprécier des parties de steel guitar, quelques ballades avec des violons en arrière-plan, de bons demi-tempos country où vous pouvez même sentir l'herbe (et peut-être aussi une tentative timide de psych léger).

Valdy And The Hometown Band - Valdy (1976)

The Hometown Band was founded by former Chilliwack sax and keyboard player Claire Lawrence. After leaving Chilliwack in late 1971 he started his own record label, Haida Records (distributed by A & M) where he signed folk singer Valdy. At first Valdy toured as a solo, with just his guitar. As the hits kept coming, and the production got more elaborate, the need for a touring back-up band became evident. So Claire Lawrence put together a band with the finest players in town and release this album.

The Hometown Band a été fondé par l'ancien joueur de claviers et saxophonistes de Chilliwack, Claire Lawrence. Après avoir quitté Chilliwack à la fin de 1971, il crée sa propre maison de disque, Haida Records (distribuée par A & M) où il signe le chanteur folk Valdy. Au début, Valdy a tourné en solo, avec juste sa guitare. Sorti en mars 1969, Happy Trails est le deuxième album de Quicksilver Messenger Service, groupe phare du rock psychédélique de San Francisco. Construit autour de longues improvisations live, notamment sur le thème de "Who Do You Love" de Bo Diddley, l'album capture l'essence des concerts hallucinés du groupe à la fin des années 1960. La première face est entièrement occupée par une suite live de plus de 25 minutes, tandis que la seconde propose une alternance entre enregistrements live et studio. Le disque a été salué pour sa cohésion musicale et sa virtuosité instrumentale, atteignant la 27e place du Billboard 200 et devenant disque d’or.

Released in March 1969, Happy Trails is the second album by San Francisco psychedelic rock band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Centered around extended live improvisations, notably on Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love," the album captures the hypnotic energy of the band’s late ’60s performances. Side one consists of a 25-minute live suite, while side two blends live and studio tracks. Critically acclaimed for its instrumental prowess and cohesion, the album reached #27 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified gold.

Two Friends - Two Friends (1972)

Released in 1972, this is the sole Two Friends LP on Motowns folk label Natural Resources. Soft folk rock lightly funky with a certain déjà vu feel (America,CSNY) . Two friends consists several members : Chip Carpenter (rhythm guitar), Bucky Wiener (lead rhythm, acoustic guitar), Michel Rubini (piano), Jim Keltner, Bob Morin, John Raines (drums), Ray Neipolitin, Joe Osborne (bass guitar), Ann Goodman (cello) and  Harry Bluestone (violin).

Sorti en 1972, il s'agit de l'unique Two Friends LP du label folk de Motowns, Natural Resources. Rock folk doux légèrement funky avec une certaine sensation de déjà vu (America, CSNY). Deux amis se composent de plusieurs membres: Chip Carpenter (guitare rythmique), Bucky Wiener (rythme principal, guitare acoustique), Michel Rubini (piano), Jim Keltner, Bob Morin, John Raines (batterie), Ray Neipolitin, Joe Osborne (basse) , Ann Goodman (violoncelle) et Harry Bluestone (violon).

Connu comme l’un des guitaristes majeurs des Eagles, Don Felder publie en 1981 Airborne, son unique album solo avant son départ du groupe. Loin de l’univers country-rock des Eagles, Felder explore ici un rock FM aux sonorités plus polies, flirtant parfois avec le soft rock et le AOR typiques de l’époque. Virtuose et mélodique, il y déploie tout son savoir-faire à la guitare, alternant morceaux énergiques et ballades soignées.

Famous as one of the key guitarists of the Eagles, Don Felder released Airborne in 1981, his only solo album before leaving the band. Moving away from the Eagles' country-rock style, Felder explores here a more polished FM rock sound, sometimes bordering on soft rock and the AOR typical of the era. Showcasing his virtuosity and melodic sense, he delivers energetic tracks as well as carefully crafted ballads.

Souther, Hillman, Furay Band is a band composed of John David Souther, a writer close to the Eagles, Chris Hillman, ex-Byrds / former Flying Burrito Brothers / ex-Manassas and Richie Furay, ex-Buffalo Springfield / ex-Poco. Created by David Geffen (Geffen Records) in the mid-1970s, this band also included Paul Harris on keyboards (ex-Manassas), Jim Clarke on drums (ex-Byrds, Ex flying Burrito Brothers), Joe Lala on drums (ex -Manassas), Al Perkins on pedal steel guitar and guitars (ex-Manassas). This group recorded 2 studio albums and broke up soon after not having achieved the success expected by Geffen. The three associates were too individualistic for the fusion to take place. Note the strong presence of members of Manassas, former group of Stephen Stills.

Le son de la marque Riopelle a attiré l'attention des programmeurs de radio et de leurs auditeurs dans les États du Sud-Ouest au début des années 70, lorsque Jerry a sorti son premier album éponyme pour Capitol Records. En 1974, suite à la sortie du troisième album de Jerry "Saving Grace", Riopelle se produit en tant qu'assistance pour le Dr John au légendaire Celebrity Theatre à l'occasion du Nouvel An.

🇬🇧 Biography

The trademark Riopelle sound caught the ear of radio programmers and their listeners in the Southwestern states in the early 70’s, when Jerry released his first, self-titled album for Capitol Records. Arizona caught on quickly to this L.A. singer/songwriter's talent, and in 1974 following the release of Jerry’s third album "Saving Grace", Riopelle performed as the support act for Dr. John at the legendary Celebrity Theatre on New Year’s Eve.
