The Hometown Band was founded by former Chilliwack sax and keyboard player Claire Lawrence. After leaving Chilliwack in late 1971 he started his own record label, Haida Records (distributed by A & M) where he signed folk singer Valdy. At first Valdy toured as a solo, with just his guitar. As the hits kept coming, and the production got more elaborate, the need for a touring back-up band became evident. So Claire Lawrence put together a band with the finest players in town and release this album.
The Hometown Band a été fondé par l'ancien joueur de claviers et saxophonistes de Chilliwack, Claire Lawrence. Après avoir quitté Chilliwack à la fin de 1971, il crée sa propre maison de disque, Haida Records (distribuée par A & M) où il signe le chanteur folk Valdy. Au début, Valdy a tourné en solo, avec juste sa guitare. Alors que les succès ne cessaient d'augmenter et que la production devenait de plus en plus complexe, le besoin d'un groupe de back-up de tournée devint évident. Claire Lawrence a donc créé un groupe avec les meilleurs musiciens de la ville et a sorti cet album.
