Sorti en 1998, 5 est le cinquième album studio de Lenny Kravitz. Ce disque marque un tournant stylistique avec l’introduction marquée de sons électroniques et de programmations, tout en conservant l’ADN vintage de Kravitz mêlant rock, funk et soul. L’album connaît un immense succès commercial, notamment grâce à deux tubes planétaires : Fly Awayet I Belong to You. Released in 1998, 5 is Lenny Kravitz’s fifth studio album and represents a shift toward more modern production, incorporating electronic elements and drum machines. Despite this evolution, the album retains Kravitz’s signature blend of vintage rock, funk, and soul. It became one of his biggest commercial successes, especially thanks to the chart-topping hits Fly Away and I Belong to You. 5 earned Kravitz a Grammy and expanded his global reach, confirming his status as a major figure in 90s rock.
Lenny Kravitz is still obsessed with the '70s, and for good reason: he's found endless inspiration in the work of Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, and a decade's worth of soul men. Kravitz hasn't lost the funk on 5, but the sound here drifts dangerously close to the Me decade's shallowest end, when disco seemed to rob R&B of its soul. So the passion Kravitz has shown on early albums is strangely diluted (aside from the album-closing epic "Can We Find a Reason?"). 5 is the singer's first foray into digital technology, but despite a few modern effects at the edges, he's doing essentially the same as before--only colder.
