The Electric Prunes is a rock band from the sixties, which was a brief success with psychedelic singles like 'I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night)' or 'Get Me to the World on Time'. He had a troubled history and disappeared at the end of the decade, to be reborn in 2001. The first two albums of Electric Prunes are classic psychedelic rock: inventive, experimental, original. Jim Lowe (singer) defines the music of Electric Prunes as the Free Form Garage Rock, experimental rock garage. And it is true that this group is one of the first to blend rock and electronic tricks. Their biggest claim to fame is 'I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)' which became a classic sixties punk, thanks be to Lenny Kaye and Nuggets who shot the unjustly forgotten The group is from the San Fernando valley, Los Angeles. Initially, it is a garage band, The Sanctions consisting of Ken Williams (guitar), James Lowe (vocals, harmonica), Michael Weakley and sometimes Joe Dooley (drums) and Mark Tulin (bass). Like many groups of this period, its membership has varied over time and albums.

Released in 1967, The Electric Prunes is the debut album from the Los Angeles-based psychedelic garage band. With their hit single “I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night),” the Electric Prunes quickly became icons of the late-60s psych scene. Produced by Dave Hassinger, the album showcases innovative studio effects, fuzz-drenched guitars, and reverb-laden vocals. Bread Love And Dreams - Amaryllis (1971)

Bread Love and Dreams is a folk-rock duo complemented by some talented musicians, especially Terry Cox and Danny Thompson of Pentangle group. Their three albums performed by excellent musicians, are now collectors' albums, with their simple and beautiful melodies, great song (3 members sing over the songs). Their album 'Amaryllis' is remarkable for its ambitious piece under 21minutes. An essential group for lovers of folk psychedelic rock.

Leur unique album Flash, enregistré en 1968 aux studios Gold Star et édité en 1969 chez Tantara, capture un rock psychédélique aux accents blues-rock et garage . Influencé par Hendrix et les 13th Floor Elevators, l’album mêle riffs furieux, orgue Hammond vaporeux et expérimentations sonores – avec des titres comme “Flashback”, “Crimson Witch” ou le long “Joe Blues” qui explore les ambiances stoner blues .

Khan is an obscure but brilliant training home to Steve Hillage (Gong ex-) on guitar (and vocals) and Dave Stewart (Egg, Hatfield & the North, National Health and Bruford) on keyboards. Music Space Hanty is a trip to the psych prog of the era with some of the best guitar solos you'll hear a kind of album. If you like the wonderful fish rising album of Steve Hillage (his best solo effort), then you'll love this disc.

Khan est une formation obscure mais brillante qui abrite Steve Hillage ( ex- Gong ) à la guitare ( et voix) et Dave Stewart ( Egg, Hatfield & the North , National Health , et Bruford ) sur les claviers . La musique de Space Hanty est une excursion dans la psych prog de l'époque avec certains des meilleurs soli de guitare que vous allez entendre sur un album du genre. Si vous aimez le merveilleux album Fish Rising  de Steve Hillage (son meilleur effort en solo),  alors vous adorerez ce disque.

This trio of Tony Duhig (guitar), Jon Field (percussion, flute) and Glyn Havard (bass & vocals) plays an eclectic music with singular sounds compared to the era of rock standards: flute, guitar given how unusual and battery replaced by tubular bells and various other percussion. An abstract component and contrasting blend of introspective melodies, Rocks and basic rhythmic assaults, Jade Warrior is exploring the possible paths without getting caught up in any label and reveals an attraction, pioneering at the time, to ethnic music . Particularly enthralled by Japanese culture, the trio has drawn some exotic sounds, her stage name and imagery inherited from ancient prints that adorn the covers of all their upcoming albums. Ultimately, an unusual first disc rediscover finally, after a few mistakes in a proper reissue.

Ce trio composé de Tony Duhig (guitare), Jon Field (percussions, flûte) et Glyn Havard (basse & vocals) joue une musique éclectique aux sonorités singulières comparées aux standards rock de l'époque : flûte, guitare accordée de façon inusitée et batterie remplacée par des cloches tubulaires et autres percussions diverses. Composant un assemblage abstrait et contrasté de mélopées introspectives, de Rocks basiques et d'assauts rythmiques, Jade Warrior explore les chemins possibles sans se laisser enfermer dans une quelconque étiquette et témoigne d'une attirance, pionnière à l'époque, pour les musiques ethniques. Subjugué en particulier par la culture japonaise, le trio y a puisé quelques sons exotiques, son nom de scène et une imagerie héritée d'antiques estampes qui ornera les pochettes de tous leurs albums à venir. En définitive, un premier disque inhabituel à redécouvrir enfin, après quelques errements, dans une réédition correcte.

Ce quartet originaire de Manchester est un melting pot proto-progressif d'influences héritées de quelques groupes dont le succès fut plus heureux : le premier Black Sabbath pour le son Hard Rock, un côté bluesy et/ou psychédélique emprunté à Cream ou à Syd Barrett et dû à la guitare fuzzy de Norman Barrett, un petite évocation du premier album Blues-Rock de Jethro Tull à cause des parties de flûte tumultueuses de J.D. Hughes sans oublier un feeling jazzy apporté par le batteur Barry Davenport qui officiait auparavant dans un combo de Jazz (John Rotherham Trio). Le succès n'étant jamais venu au rendez-vous, Gravy Train se disloqua dans l'indifférence en 1974 tandis qu'à l'instar de Kerry Livgren et Neal Morse, le guitariste et chanteur Norman Barrett choisit définitivement la voie lumineuse en intégrant un groupe de Rock chrétien. Aujourd'hui, le LP original, emballé par Hipgnosis dans une superbe double pochette riche en couleurs et représentant une scène de gare digne d'un western de Sergio Leone, est activement recherché par les collectionneurs.

Formé à Waverton en 1969, Gravy Train propose avec son premier album éponyme un mélange de rock progressifteinté de psychédélie et de folk, porté par des arrangements de flûte et saxophone. Sorti en 1970 sur Vertigo Records, ce disque dégage une atmosphère à la fois mystique et organique, portée par les talents de compositeur de J.D. Hughes et les solos de guitare de Norman Barratt. Bien que passé inaperçu à sa sortie, Gravy Train est aujourd’hui reconnu comme un jalon de l’underground prog britannique.

Warhorse - Warhorse (1970)

After leaving Deep Purple bassist Nick Simper Warhorse founded on the same model, confident Hammond Frank Wilson and guitar Ged Peck for a clone of the famous duo Jon Lord / Ritchie Blackmore. And, for a first record, it works pretty well with a proto-progressive hard rock repertoire focused on Blues and Funk. The hoarse voice of Ashley Holt has not the power of that of Ian Gillan but it is a possible alternative to this kind of music while the organ solos and guitar them ensure maximum: just to hear riffs Vulture Blood Ritual or Woman of the Devil to convince potential Warhorse. Simply St. Louis, a resumption of Easybeats, fails to reach the charts, but the album, packed in a beautiful bag designed by the photographer Marcus Keef, will not pass unnoticed as far amateurs. Due to staffing problems, the group will forfeit after his second trial (Red Sea in 1972 recorded with another guitarist) and ending a brief adventure with a little more luck, could have taken another turn.

Le simple St. Louis, une reprise des Easybeats, ne réussit pas à atteindre les charts mais l'album, emballé dans une pochette superbe conçue par le photographe Marcus Keef, ne passera pas pour autant inaperçu des amateurs. Suite à des problèmes de personnel, le groupe déclarera forfait après son deuxième essai (Red Sea en 1972 enregistré avec un autre guitariste) mettant ainsi un terme à une brève aventure qui, avec un peu plus de chance, aurait pu prendre un autre tournant.
