Martin Raphael was a simple merchant in Scotland until it receives the visit of Ramases who informed him that he was the reincarnation of the famous Egyptian pharaoh and his responsibility to tell the world the truth about the universe . From there, he changed his name and tried to find a label to distribute its music and spread the word. Strangely, he convinced CBS in 1968 to produce 45 towers and two years later, Vertigo, edit an entire LP. Registered in the company of Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Lol Creme and Kevin Godley (future members of 10cc group), Space Hyms is a weird realization within the spiral label: either folk or rock but in between with "spatial" sound effects and an inevitable psyche approach coupled with the mystical recommendations of the leader (Do not burst your bubble, or you're in trouble!). The album will have some impact in Germany, which will allow Ramases to record a second, again for Vertigo (Glass Top Coffin, 1975), which this time will have no success. The most interesting in this story remains the superb pouch six fold-out flaps, designed by Roger Dean, who represents the roof of a church shaped rocket taking off into space.

A partir de là, il changea son nom et tenta de trouver un label pour diffuser sa musique et porter la bonne parole. Etrangement, il réussit à convaincre CBS en 1968 de produire un 45 tours et, deux années plus tard, Vertigo, d'éditer tout un LP. Enregistré en compagnie de Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Lol Creme et Kevin Godley (futurs membres du groupe 10cc), Space Hyms est une réalisation bizarre au sein du label spiralé : ni folk, ni rock mais entre les deux avec des bruitages « spatiaux » et une inévitable approche psyché allant de pair avec les recommandations mystiques du leader (Don't burst your bubble, or you're in trouble !). L'album aura un certain retentissement en Allemagne, ce qui permettra à Ramases d'en enregistrer un second, toujours pour Vertigo (Glass Top Coffin, 1975), qui cette fois n'aura aucun succès. Le plus intéressant dans cette histoire reste la superbe pochette en six volets dépliables, dessinée par Roger Dean, qui représente le toit d'une église en forme de rocket décollant vers l'espace.
