Fondé par Michael Brown (ex-Left Banke) et Ian Lloyd, Stories fait partie de ces formations new-yorkaises éphémères des années 70 qui ont su allier pop orchestrale, rock psychédélique et sophistication mélodique. Leur premier album, éponyme, sorti en 1972, brille par son élégance harmonique, ses lignes de piano baroques et la voix claire et puissante de Lloyd. Bien que moins connu que leur tube ultérieur "Brother Louie", cet opus initial dévoile une créativité remarquable, à la croisée de Procol Harum, Badfinger et Todd Rundgren.

Formed by Michael Brown (formerly of The Left Banke) and Ian Lloyd, Stories emerged from the early '70s New York pop-rock scene. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1972, combines lush orchestration, piano-driven arrangements, and soaring vocals. Less commercially successful than their later hit "Brother Louie", this first effort remains a refined and underrated gem of early '70s melodic rock, echoing the baroque pop sensibilities of Procol Harum and the power-pop of Badfinger.
