Originaire de Houston, The Moving Sidewalks est un groupe fondé en 1966 incluant Billy Gibbons (futur ZZ Top). Leur unique album Flash, enregistré en 1968 aux studios Gold Star et édité en 1969 chez Tantara, capture un rock psychédélique aux accents blues-rock et garage . Influencé par Hendrix et les 13th Floor Elevators, l’album mêle riffs furieux, orgue Hammond vaporeux et expérimentations sonores – avec des titres comme “Flashback”, “Crimson Witch” ou le long “Joe Blues” qui explore les ambiances stoner blues .
Flash est le seul LP publié, en 1968, par les Moving Sidewalks, groupe de la scène rock texanne de la seconde partie des années 1960.
Composition du producteur seul, Steve Ames, l'inaugural 'Flashback' (Steve Ames) est d'abord une chanson psyché-rock absolument dans les canons de l'époque, mais, à mi-chemin, elle se transforme de façon surprenante en ballade hindouisante avec guitare-sitar et batterie-tablas.
