Octopus - The River (1970)

Octopus were an English band resulting from the renaming of a Hatfield (UK) based band named the Cortinas in late 1968. At the time of the renaming the group consisted of founder members Paul Griggs and his brother Nigel Griggs, Rick Williams and Nigel (Gary) Whinyates.

Birthday is The Association's fourth album. Despite the ostensibly psychedelic cover, the album was even lighter on psychedelic influences than their first three, with "The Time it is Today" being the sole representative of conventional psychedelic rock. Most of the album, including the two hit singles, "Everything That Touches You" and "Time For Livin'" is in the symphonic pop vein.

Birthday est le quatrième album de The Association. Yesterday's Children - Yesterday's Children (1969)

Formed in 1966, Yesterday's Children featured brothers Denis (lead vocals) and Richard Croce (rhythm guitar), along with Reggie Wright (lead guitar), Ralph Muscatelli (drums), and Chuck Maher (bass guitar). The band took an aggressive garage rock musical stance, while incorporating aspects of psychedelic nuance into their compositions. Later in the year, the group released their debut single, "To Be or Not to Be". Over the following three years, Yesterday's Children released two additional singles. In 1969, the band recorded their only album, Yesterday's Children, which was released on Map City Records.

Formé en 1966, Yesterday's Children mettait en vedette les frères Denis (chant) et Richard Croce (guitare rythmique), ainsi que Reggie Wright (guitare solo), Ralph Muscatelli (batterie) et Chuck Maher (basse). Bobby Lance - Rollin' man (1972)

Rollin' Man, recorded in New York just a year later the Bobby Lance's first album, was cut from the same cloth but it's a straighter affair, hitting the rock rhythms a bit harder, keeping the same grooves linear.  Lance, who wrote every song here in collaboration with his partner and sister Fran Robins, is a sharp writer and possesses an appealing gruff, gravelly voice.

Rollin 'Man, enregistré à New York juste un an après le premier album de Bobby Lance, a été coupé dans la même étoffe mais c'est une matière plus compacte, frappant les rythmes rock un peu plus dur, gardant les mêmes grooves linéaires. Lance, qui a écrit chaque chanson ici en collaboration avec sa partenaire et sa sœur Fran Robins, est un écrivain pointu et possède une voix grognon, graveleuse, attrayante.

Arcadium - Breathe Awhile (1969)

Arcadium was another list of obscure British psychedelic formations. The band consisted of (presumably) brothers Allan Ellwood (organ, vocals) and Robert Ellwood (lead guitar, vocals), as well as John Albert Parker (drums), Graham Best (bass, vocals), and Miguel Sergides (12-string guitar, vocals). The music is late '60s British psychedelia with some early prog leanings, where guitar and Hammond organ dominate.

Arcadium était une autre liste d'obscurs groupes psychédéliques britanniques. The Damnation Of Adam Blessing - The Second Blessing (1970)

"Second Damnation" is the second production of the band, released in October 1970 and generating the minor hit "Back to the River". Some confusion about the name occurred because the group removed the name 'Adam Blessing' on the sleeve, simply naming the Damnation. This second album contains a series of excellent songs that confirm the group's incredible creativity. This opus does not seem to have been planned, but rather spontaneously created in the studio, the tracks being, simply, the result of long sessions of jam.

He is much less psychedelic than his predecessor. With the exception of two tracks, placed in the middle of the LP, the single "Back to the River" and "Money Tree".

"Second Damnation" est la seconde production du groupe, sortie en Octobre 1970 et générant le hit mineur "Back to the River". Une certaine confusion au niveau du nom est survenue sur le groupe a supprimé le nom «Adam Blessing» sur la pochette, se nommant tout simplement la Damnation.

Ce deuxième album contient une série d'excellentes chansons qui confirment la créativité incroyable du groupe. Cet album n'a pas été conçu, mais plutôt créé spontanément en studio, les pistes étant, tout simplement, le résultat de longues sessions de confiture. Brother T. & Family are all of the original members of Lucifer's Friend, with the exception of John Lawton. Straight forward heavy blues rock, with a bizarre ballad that sounds like a spot on Elvis Presley impersonation. Procol Harum type organs, some really decent lead guitar riffs.

Lindisfarne - Road to Kingdom Come (1970)

Nicely Out of Tune is the debut album by Lindisfarne, released in late 1970. It charted more than a year after release, thanks to the huge success of their second album Fog on the Tyne, which topped the charts early in 1972. "Lady Eleanor" and "Clear White Light" were both released as singles. "We Can Swing Together", a song written by Hull about an abortive police raid on a party, became one of their favourites on stage, featuring an extended medley of traditional folk tunes played on harmonica by Ray Jackson. Elvis Costello singled out "Winter Song" as one of the greatest songs ever.

Nicely Out of Tune est le premier album de Lindisfarne, sorti à la fin des années 1970. Il a été enregistré plus d'un an après sa sortie, grâce au succès de son deuxième album Fog on the Tyne, qui a débuté en 1972. Eclection - Eclection (1968)

Another lightning group, which left a small masterpiece. Eclection was a British folk-rock band. What's more, it was one of the rare English bands to have signed at Elektra, the most famous independent American label, the Doors. To speak English band for Eclection is also a little exaggerated since only one member, the drummer Gerry Conway, is actually British, the rest of the band comes from Norway (Georg Hultgreen born Kajanus, singer and guitarist), Australia (Trevor Lucas, singer and bassist, and Kerrilee Male, singer) and Canada (Michael Rosen, voice and guitar). Eclection was therefore eclectic in its composition. The name even comes from there. There's no hazard. Never.

Encore un groupe éclair, qui a laissé un petit chef d’oeuvre. Eclection était un groupe de folk-rock britannique. Qui plus est, c’était un des rares groupes anglais a avoir signé chez Elektra,  le plus connu des labels indépendants américains, celui des Doors. Fever Tree - Another Time, Another Place (1968)

The Fever Tree's second album, "Another Time, Another Place", released in 1969 and peaked at No. 83 . Apart from "San Francisco Girls", they never had another hit, although they later also tried writing songs themselves . The group disbanded in 1970, but reformed in 1978 with only guitarist Michael Knust remaining from the original line-up. 

Le deuxième album de Fever Tree, "Another Time, Another Place", sort en 1969 et culmine au n ° 83. En dehors de "San Francisco Girls", ils n'ont jamais eu un autre succès, bien qu'ils aient aussi plus tard essayé d'écrire eux-mêmes des chansons. Smyle - Smyle (1970)

Originally known as The Smile, the band featured the talents of Ron Demmans, Ray Durritt, bassist Peter Rihbany and a drummer by the name of Mel. Under the tutelage of Herb Lock, the quartet spent several years playing clubs around Toronto, before being signed to the small Ruby label in 1970 and releasing their debut 45: Encouraged by the hit, Columbia quickly teamed the band with producer John Williams resulting in the release of 1970’s “Smyle”.

Initialement connu sous le nom The Smile, le groupe a mis en vedette les talents de Ron Demmans, Ray Durritt, bassiste Peter Rihbany et un batteur du nom de Mel. British folk/prog band founded in Bolton, Lancashire in 1967 by Martin Cockerham and Mark Francis. Their debut album, "St. Radigunds", was named after the street that their student house was on. Its follow-up, 1972's "Old Boot Wine", appeared on Peg Records and showcased a harder-edged sound than their predominantly acoustic debut.`

Groupe folk / prog britannique fondé à Bolton, Lancashire en 1967 par Martin Cockerham et Mark Francis. Heavy Equipment is a powerful psychedelic rock album. There's a raw and ferocious Garage element mixed with a veryclear and real psychedelic conviction. These overshadowing characteristics combined with their new heavy/hard rock discipline resulted in one of the best heavy rock albums recorded in the U.S.

Spot - Spot (1971)

Spot's opus, eponymous album was released in 1972 on Evasion, a label that specialized mainly in pop and folk artists, and is one of rarest collector's items from the 1970s. A greater part of the mystique likely comes as a result of the band's music. Especially noteworthy is the songwriting of bassist Andre Jungo and drummer Philippe Dubugnon, who compose nine of the ten original songs (there is also a cover of Donovan's "Jersey Thursday").

L'album éponyme de Spot est sorti en 1972 sur Evasion, un label spécialisé principalement dans les artistes pop et folk, et est l'un des rares objets de collection des années 1970. Une plus grande partie de la mystique vient probablement de la musique du groupe. La composition du bassiste Andre Jungo et du batteur Philippe Dubugnon, qui compose neuf des dix chansons originales (il y a aussi une reprise de "Jersey Thursday" de Donovan), est particulièrement remarquable.

Snafu - Snafu (1973)

Snafu were formed in late 1972 by former Procul Harum and Freedom man Bobby Harrison. Harrison was Harum’s drummer on the hit ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ but he and guitarist Ray Royer were kicked out of the band soon after. The pair formed Freedom and Harrison handled the vocal duties as well as playing the drums. However after the demise of Freedom Harrison decided to vacate the drum stool entirely and concentrate on being a vocalist/frontman.

Snafu a été formé à la fin de 1972 par l'ancien membre de Procol Harum et de Freedom, Bobby Harrison. Harrison était le batteur de Procol Harum sur le hit 'Whiter Shade of Pale' mais lui et le guitariste Ray Royer ont été expulsés du groupe peu de temps après. Juicy Lucy - Lie Back And Enjoy It (1970)

In the beginning there was a band called The Misunderstood. Hailed in the late sixties as pioneers of the psychedelic movement by the likes of Pink Floyd, their cause had been championed by John Peel who discovered them whilst he was working as a DJ in the US. He was so impressed by them that he produced their first recordings in 1966 and invited them to come to the UK, an offer they later followed. However, problems with UK immigration services caused personnel problems. Juicy Lucy was born out of their final line up in July 1969.

Au début, il y avait un groupe appelé The Misunderstood. Acclamé à la fin des années soixante comme pionnier du mouvement psychédélique par Pink Floyd, leur cause avait été défendue par John Peel qui les avait découvert alors qu'il travaillait comme DJ aux États-Unis. Dada - Dada (1971)

Dada is a 12-piece Stax-influenced, jazz-rock fusion band. Dada released one, eponymous, album in 1970, with a line up including vocalist Elkie Brooks and guitarist Pete Gage. Singer Robert Palmer, formerly with The Alan Bown Set, and bassist Steve York both joined Dada after the album had been recorded, and the four were signed by Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records to form Vinegar Joe in 1971, adding keyboard player Dave Thompson.

The Greatest Show On Earth - The Going's Easy (1970)

The band was formed in 1968 and featured brothers Garth and Norman Watt-Roy (who played guitar and bass respectively), vocalist, guitarist and flautist Colin Horton-Jennings, Mick Deacon on Organ, a horn section of Dick Hanson, Tex Philpotts and Ian Aitcheson and drummer Ron Prudence. The band began to take on board more progressive influences, incorporating rock, jazz and acoustic music into their sound. Greatest Show on Earth released their debut album in February 1970 adorned in a startling Hipgnosis designed sleeve. The Going s Easy , released in November 1970, was an equally competent work that included the excellent rock track Borderline and the acoustic Magic Woman Touch (later covered by The Hollies). Upon the band s demise Mike Deacon joined Vinegar Joe (fronted by Elkie Brooks and Robert Palmer), Garth Watt-Roy went on to perform and record with Fuzzy Duck.

Brainbox - Brainbox (1970)

Brainbox is a Dutch rock band from the 60s and 70s. Their music is tinged with progressive rock, blues and folk music. The band was founded in Amsterdam at the end of the 60's by Jan Akkerman (guitar), Pierre van der Linden (drums), Andre Reynen (bass) and Kaz (Kazimir ) Lux (singing). They have had several successes in the Netherlands, including "Between Alpha and Omega", "Doomsday Train" and "Smile". Shortly after the release of their first album, Akkerman and van der Linden leave the group to join Focus.

Brainbox est un groupe de rock néerlandais des années 60/70. Leur musique est teintée de rock progressif, de blues et de musique folk.Le groupe est fondé à Amsterdam à la fin des 60 par Jan Akkerman (guitare), Pierre van der Linden (batterie), Andre Reynen (basse) et Kaz (Kazimir) Lux (chant). Ils ont connu plusieurs succès aux Pays-Bas, dont "Between Alpha and Omega", "Doomsday Train" et "Smile". Peu après la sortie de leur premier album, Akkerman et van der Linden quittent le groupe pour rejoindre Focus.

Very few Minnesota rock 'n' roll bands, in the days before Prince and Grammy-winning producers Jimmy "Jam" Harris and Terry Lewis made the scene, managed to successfully steal even a slight serving of the nation's auditory attention. Among such acts were the Trashmen, the Gestures, the Castaways and Crow.
