Birthday is The Association's fourth album. Despite the ostensibly psychedelic cover, the album was even lighter on psychedelic influences than their first three, with "The Time it is Today" being the sole representative of conventional psychedelic rock. Most of the album, including the two hit singles, "Everything That Touches You" and "Time For Livin'" is in the symphonic pop vein.

Birthday est le quatrième album de The Association. Bobby Lance - Rollin' man (1972)

Rollin' Man, recorded in New York just a year later the Bobby Lance's first album, was cut from the same cloth but it's a straighter affair, hitting the rock rhythms a bit harder, keeping the same grooves linear.  Lance, who wrote every song here in collaboration with his partner and sister Fran Robins, is a sharp writer and possesses an appealing gruff, gravelly voice.

Rollin 'Man, enregistré à New York juste un an après le premier album de Bobby Lance, a été coupé dans la même étoffe mais c'est une matière plus compacte, frappant les rythmes rock un peu plus dur, gardant les mêmes grooves linéaires. Arcadium was another list of obscure British psychedelic formations. The band consisted of (presumably) brothers Allan Ellwood (organ, vocals) and Robert Ellwood (lead guitar, vocals), as well as John Albert Parker (drums), Graham Best (bass, vocals), and Miguel Sergides (12-string guitar, vocals). The music is late '60s British psychedelia with some early prog leanings, where guitar and Hammond organ dominate.

Brother T. & Family - Drillin' Of The Rock (1970)

Brother T. & Family are all of the original members of Lucifer's Friend, with the exception of John Lawton. Straight forward heavy blues rock, with a bizarre ballad that sounds like a spot on Elvis Presley impersonation. Procol Harum type organs, some really decent lead guitar riffs.

Eclection est un groupe anglo-norvégien éphémère qui a vu le jour à Londres en 1967. Leur unique album mêle folk-rock, pop orchestrale et harmonies vocales à la manière de The Mamas and the Papas ou Fairport Convention. Produit par Ossie Byrne (Bee Gees), cet opus soigné mêle envolées lyriques et touches psychédéliques dans un esprit progressif. Bien qu’oublié du grand public, il reste une pépite du folk baroque britannique.

Encore un groupe éclair, qui a laissé un petit chef d’oeuvre. Eclection était un groupe de folk-rock britannique. Qui plus est, c’était un des rares groupes anglais a avoir signé chez Elektra,  le plus connu des labels indépendants américains, celui des Doors. Parler de goupe anglais pour Eclection est d’ailleurs un peu exagéré étant donné qu’un seul membre, le batteur Gerry Conway, est en réalité britannique, le reste du groupe vient de Norvège (Georg Hultgreen né Kajanus, chanteur et guitariste),  d’Australie (Trevor Lucas, chanteur et bassiste,  et Kerrilee Male, chanteuse) et du Canada (Michael Rosen, voix et guitare). Eclection était donc éclectique dans sa composition.   Le nom vient même de là. Il n’y a pas de hasard. Jamais.

Eclection was a short-lived Anglo-Norwegian band formed in London in 1967. Their only album blends folk-rock, orchestral pop, and rich vocal harmonies reminiscent of The Mamas and the Papas or early Fairport Convention. Produced by Ossie Byrne (Bee Gees), it’s a refined and progressive psych-folk gem.

Another lightning group, which left a small masterpiece. Eclection was a British folk-rock band. What's more, it was one of the rare English bands to have signed at Elektra, the most famous independent American label, the Doors. To speak English band for Eclection is also a little exaggerated since only one member, the drummer Gerry Conway, is actually British, the rest of the band comes from Norway (Georg Hultgreen born Kajanus, singer and guitarist), Australia (Trevor Lucas, singer and bassist, and Kerrilee Male, singer) and Canada (Michael Rosen, voice and guitar). Eclection was therefore eclectic in its composition. The name even comes from there. There's no hazard. Never.

Spot - Spot (1971)

Spot's opus, eponymous album was released in 1972 on Evasion, a label that specialized mainly in pop and folk artists, and is one of rarest collector's items from the 1970s. A greater part of the mystique likely comes as a result of the band's music. In the beginning there was a band called The Misunderstood. Hailed in the late sixties as pioneers of the psychedelic movement by the likes of Pink Floyd, their cause had been championed by John Peel who discovered them whilst he was working as a DJ in the US. He was so impressed by them that he produced their first recordings in 1966 and invited them to come to the UK, an offer they later followed. However, problems with UK immigration services caused personnel problems. Juicy Lucy was born out of their final line up in July 1969.

Dada - Dada (1971)

Dada is a 12-piece Stax-influenced, jazz-rock fusion band. Dada released one, eponymous, album in 1970, with a line up including vocalist Elkie Brooks and guitarist Pete Gage. Singer Robert Palmer, formerly with The Alan Bown Set, and bassist Steve York both joined Dada after the album had been recorded, and the four were signed by Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records to form Vinegar Joe in 1971, adding keyboard player Dave Thompson.

Dada est un groupe de fusion jazz-rock de 12 musiciens influencé par Stax. Dada sort un album éponyme en 1970, avec un line-up incluant la chanteuse Elkie Brooks et le guitariste Pete Gage. Ce groupe britannique formé en 1968 par les frères Norman et Garth Watt-Roy, avec Colin Horton-Jennings, Mick Deacon, Dick Hanson (trompette), Tex Phillpotts et Ian Aitchison (saxes), plus Ron Prudence à la batterie, fut conçu comme un horn-based rock band à la manière de Chicago ou Blood, Sweat & Tears

Leur deuxième album, The Going’s Easy, paru en novembre 1970 sur Harvest Records, propose une fusion intense de rock blues, de funk, de jazz-rock et de prog, intégrant une section cuivres bien présente. Les titres phares comme Borderline, Magic Woman Touch, Story Times and Nursery Rhymes, ou Tell the Story illustrent parfaitement cette énergie brass-rock. Malgré un son puissant et sophistiqué, soutenu par des productions signées Jonathan Peel et une pochette signée Hipgnosis, l’opus ne trouve pas son public au Royaume-Uni et le groupe cesse ses activités début 1971.

Standout tracks like Borderline, Magic Woman Touch, Story Times and Nursery Rhymes, and Tell the Story highlight the band’s sophisticated yet energetic style. Despite quality production by Jonathan Peel and a polished Hipgnosis album cover, the record failed to resonate commercially in the UK, and the band disbanded in early 1971.
