Mick Greenwood, de son nom complet Michael Vernon Greenwood, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète et producteur britannique, né le 13 février 1951 à Potters Bar, dans le Hertfordshire (Angleterre). Doué pour la musique dès son plus jeune âge, il commence à composer et se produire dans les clubs londoniens avant de tenter sa chance aux États-Unis.

Son destin bascule lorsqu’il est repéré au mythique The Bitter End à New York par John Hammond, légendaire dénicheur de talents chez Columbia Records. Mais c’est finalement MCA Records qui le signe en 1971, convaincu de son potentiel artistique. Cette même année, il publie son premier album, Living Game, enregistré à Londres, dans les studios Sound Techniques et CBS Studios.

Ce premier opus est salué par la critique pour sa profondeur émotionnelle et son alliage subtil de folk rock britannique, de pop progressive, et de nuances psychédéliques. Greenwood s’entoure de musiciens prestigieux, tels que Gerry Conway (Fotheringay, Fairport Convention) à la batterie, et Dave Pegg (Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull) à la basse, apportant une dimension sonore riche et fluide à ses compositions.

Mick Greenwood, born Michael Vernon Greenwood on February 13, 1951, in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, England, is a British singer-songwriter and producer known for his deeply melodic and introspective music. After relocating to the U.S., he was discovered by the legendary John Hammond while performing at The Bitter End in New York City.

Although initially courted by Columbia Records, Greenwood ultimately signed with MCA Records in 1971. That same year, he released his debut album Living Game, recorded at Sound Techniques and CBS Studios in London.

The album showcases a lush blend of British folk rock, soft psychedelia, and progressive influences. It features renowned musicians like Gerry Conway on drums and Dave Pegg on bass—both alumni of Fairport Convention—whose talents enriched Greenwood’s intricate arrangements.

Though Greenwood never achieved mainstream success, his music has gained renewed appreciation over time. He followed Living Game with To Friends (1972) and Midnight Dreamer (1974), further demonstrating his lyrical sensitivity and refined songwriting style.
