Eddie Mottau était un guitariste américain né le 10 décembre 1943 à Boston, Massachusetts, et décédé le 3 novembre 2024 à Peterborough, New Hampshire. Sa carrière musicale, riche de plus de cinquante ans, l’a vu évoluer aussi bien en solo qu’en tant que musicien de session très demandé, collaborant avec certains des plus grands noms de la musique.
Il commence sa carrière dans le duo folk Two Guys from Boston, avant d’intégrer plusieurs groupes, dont The Bait Shop, Bo Grumpus et Jolliver Arkansaw. Installé à New York puis à Los Angeles, il se fait remarquer pour son jeu de guitare raffiné et expressif.
En 1973, il sort son premier album solo, No Turning Around, produit par Paul Stookey (de Peter, Paul & Mary). Cet album met en lumière sa sensibilité musicale et son talent d’auteur-compositeur, avec la participation de Felix Pappalardi (Cream, Mountain), Rusty Young (Poco) et Gerry Mulligan (au saxophone baryton), entre autres. Eddie Mottau was an American guitarist born on December 10, 1943, in Boston, Massachusetts, and passed away on November 3, 2024, in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Over five decades, he built a respected career as both a solo artist and a highly sought-after session musician, working with notable figures in the rock and folk scenes.
He began performing in the folk duo Two Guys from Boston, and later played with The Bait Shop, Bo Grumpus, and Jolliver Arkansaw. Relocating to New York and later Los Angeles, Mottau gained a reputation for his tasteful and expressive guitar work.
In 1973, he released his debut solo album, No Turning Around, produced by Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary. The album features contributions from Felix Pappalardi, Rusty Young, and Gerry Mulligan, and blends folk, rock, and jazz nuances in a warm, introspective style.
