Le Nielsen Pearson Band était un duo américain formé à Sacramento, Californie, composé de Reed Nielsen et Mark Pearson. Actifs entre 1978 et 1983, ils se sont imposés dans la mouvance du soft rock / West Coast, alors en pleine effervescence. Les deux musiciens se connaissaient depuis le lycée et partageaient une affinité musicale qui les mena naturellement à collaborer sous le nom de Nielsen Pearson Band.

Leur premier album éponyme, The Nielsen Pearson Band, est sorti en 1978 sur le label Epic Records. Il met en lumière une écriture soignée, des harmonies vocales sophistiquées et une production typique de la Californie de la fin des années 1970. Parmi les titres phares, on trouve "Home", "Wasn't That the Love", ou encore "Tryin' to Dance".

Le duo a ensuite publié deux autres albums : Nielsen/Pearson (1980), dont le single "If You Should Sail" est entré au Billboard Hot 100, et Blind Luck (1983), considéré aujourd’hui comme un classique du style AOR/West Coast grâce à des morceaux comme "Sentimental" ou "Hasty Heart". Après leur séparation en 1983, Reed Nielsen s’est orienté vers l’écriture pour d'autres artistes, collaborant notamment avec Vince Gill et Kenny Chesney.

The pair, friends since high school, shared a musical chemistry that translated into polished songwriting and rich vocal harmonies.

Their debut album, The Nielsen Pearson Band (1978), was released by Epic Records and captured the mellow, melodic sound of late-70s California rock. Highlights include "Home", "Wasn't That the Love", and "Tryin’ to Dance".

The band released two more albums: Nielsen/Pearson (1980), which featured the Billboard-charting single "If You Should Sail", and Blind Luck (1983), now regarded as a West Coast/AOR gem with tracks like "Hasty Heart" and "Sentimental". After the band disbanded in 1983, Reed Nielsen pursued a successful career writing for country and pop artists such as Vince Gill and Kenny Chesney.
