Dennis Lambert est un auteur-compositeur-interprète et producteur américain, né en 1947 à Brooklyn, New York. Il entame sa carrière musicale dès 1960 en signant un contrat avec Capitol Records en tant qu’artiste solo. Toutefois, c’est dans l’ombre, en tant qu’auteur et producteur, que son talent s’épanouit véritablement à partir du milieu des années 1960.
Aux côtés de Lou Courtney, il écrit et produit pour des artistes comme Freddie & the Dreamers, Lorraine Ellison, Jerry Butler et Jerry Lee Lewis. En 1965, il intègre le département A&R de Mercury Records, où il est encadré par Quincy Jones et Shelby Singleton, deux figures majeures de l’industrie musicale. Il rejoint ensuite DCP Records, travaillant avec Don Costa.
Après une parenthèse due à son service militaire pendant la guerre du Vietnam, Lambert s’installe à Los Angeles en 1968. L’année suivante, il forme un partenariat décisif avec le compositeur britannique Brian Potter. Ensemble, ils signeront une série de tubes durant les années 1970 pour des artistes comme The Four Tops, The Righteous Brothers, Tavares, Player, Glen Campbell et Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds.
En 1972, Dennis Lambert publie son unique album solo, Bags & Things, sur le label ABC/Dunhill Records. Cet album personnel, souvent méconnu du grand public, révèle ses talents d’interprète et d’arrangeur, avec un son mêlant soft rock, pop orchestrale, et touches de blue-eyed soul. Il s’entoure pour l’occasion de musiciens d’exception tels que Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon, Ben Benay, Ray Pohlman, Artie Butler et Brian Potter.

Dennis Lambert is an American singer-songwriter and record producer, born in 1947 in Brooklyn, New York. He began his musical journey in 1960 when he signed a recording deal with Capitol Records. By the mid-1960s, he pivoted to songwriting and production, teaming up with Lou Courtney to work on material for artists such as Freddie & the Dreamers, Lorraine Ellison, Jerry Butler, and Jerry Lee Lewis.
In 1965, Lambert joined the A&R department at Mercury Records, where he was mentored by Quincy Jones and Shelby Singleton. Later, he worked under Don Costa at DCP Records, continuing to refine his craft in production and composition.
Following a stint in the military during the Vietnam War, Lambert moved to Los Angeles in 1968. In 1969, he began a prolific songwriting and producing partnership with Brian Potter, a collaboration that would yield numerous hits throughout the 1970s.
In 1972, Lambert released his one and only solo album, Bags & Things, on ABC/Dunhill Records. The record reveals a softer, introspective side of Lambert, blending soft rock, pop, and blue-eyed soul, with stellar session contributions from Hal Blaine, Jim Gordon, Ben Benay, Ray Pohlman, Artie Butler, and Brian Potter.
While his name is most associated with his behind-the-scenes success, Bags & Things remains a cult favorite among connoisseurs of early '70s singer-songwriter albums.
