Ambrosia - One Eighty (1980)

Ambrosia is an American rock band formed in southern California in 1970.The title of One Eighty was the bands fourth album and is now regarded as the high point of their AOR period. The approach is studious yet exploratory, leaving enough space for the songs to breathe and be supported by carefully executed multi-layered backing vocals.the album One Eighty was believed by fans to signal the group's "180-degree" change in direction.

Ambrosia est un groupe de rock américain formé dans le sud de la Californie en 1970. One Eighty était le quatrième album du groupe, il est maintenant considéré comme le point culminant de leur période AOR. L'approche est studieuse mais exploratoire, laissant suffisamment d'espace pour que les chansons respirent et soit soutenue par des choeurs multicouches soigneusement exécutés. Jiva - Still Life (1978)

Jiva was a rock band with a much harder sound than most of the musicians of their period and they were signed to George Harrison's label Dark Horse records. Whether this was done purely on a musical reasons or because Harrison was in the process of courting and marrying Olivia Arias who was a fan and friend of the band is unknown. 

Jiva était un groupe de rock avec un son beaucoup plus dur que la plupart des musiciens de leur époque et ils ont été signés au label Dark Horse Records de George Harrison. On ne sait pas si cela a été fait purement pour des raisons musicales ou parce que Harrison était en train de courtiser et d'épouser Olivia Arias qui était une fan et une amie du groupe.

Orleans - Forever (1979)

This is a very pleasant and valuable work by the post-John Hall Orleans who signed to Ron Alexenburg's ill-fated Infinity records label. Their hit "Love Takes Time" leads off this Hoppen brothers-dominated version of Orleans and it is a treat, a move away from the folk sounds that the band originally found fame with and a jump head first into the music that the Atlanta Rhythm Section, David Pack, and Ambrosia, and other '70s  rock artists were enjoying success with. 

C'est un travail très agréable et précieux par le post-John Hall d'Orléans qui a signé le label Infinity Records de Ron Alexenburg. Leur tube "Love Takes Time" sort de cette version d'Orléans dominée par les frères Hoppen et c'est un régal, un changement par rapport aux sons folks que le groupe a initialement connus et un saut tête première dans la musique pour laquelle l'Atlanta Rhythm Section, David Pack et Ambrosia, et d'autres artistes rock des années 70 ont eu du succès.

When the music industry and listeners became enamored with sensitive singer-songwriters in the early 1970s, few would become more successful than Texans Jimmy Seals and Dash Crofts, better known as the soft-rock duo, Seals & Crofts.Diamond Girl is their fifth studio album.It contains a number of different musical styles and themes which are all so pleasant the ones than the others.

Brewer & Shipley - Tarkio (1970)

Brewer & Shipley are an American folk rock duo who enjoyed their peak success in the late 1960s through the 1970s, consisting of singer-songwriters Mike Brewer and Tom Shipley. They were known for their intricate guitar work, vocal harmonies, and socially conscious lyrics which reflected the concerns of their generation — especially the Vietnam War, and the struggles for personal and political freedom.

The Flying Burrito Brothers - Honky Tonk Heaven (1973)

The Flying Burrito Brothers are a seminal American country rock band, best known for their influential 1969 debut album, The Gilded Palace of Sin. Although the group is perhaps best known for its connection to band founders Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman (formerly of the Byrds), the group underwent many personnel changes and has existed in various incarnations. A lineup with no original members (and derived from the 2000s-era Burrito Deluxe) currently performs as The Burrito Brothers.

Clive Davis had just started Arista Records and decided to sign us. We chose Tom Sellers to produce the record because Clive liked him and we wanted to get started without late".

Ohio Knox ‎– Ohio Knox (1971)

Singer-songwriter delivers a brilliant yet overlooked set of tunes here, backed by top session musicians of the era. The tunes range from sparse folk (North Country Laura) to jazzy rock (No Sleep for the Wicked), though a heartland folk-rock feel dominates. John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful contributes fine harmonica and stinging guitar on "Baby Sox Knox", Gallway's "Ohio Knox" signature theme. Dallas Taylor (of CSNY fame) pounds the skins masterfully as well.

L'auteur-compositeur-interprète Peter Gallway livre ici un ensemble d'airs brillants mais ignorés, soutenus par les meilleurs musiciens de l'époque. Les registres vont du folk clairsemé (North Country Laura) au rock jazzy (No Sleep for the Wicked), même si une sensation folk rock domine. John Sebastian de Lovin 'Spoonful contribue à l'harmonica et à la guitare  sur "Baby Sox Knox", thème de la signature "Ohio Knox" de Gallway. The Fifth Avenue Band - Fifth Avenue Band (1976)

The Fifth Avenue Band only made this one record, but they did it very well. The music is jazz and pop inflected rock of a kind many people have now forgotten (or maybe never even heard before if they're under forty). Fans of the seventies  will like this, as well as folks that like groups such as Orleans, The Little River Band or Doobie Brothers. 

The Fifth Avenue Band n'a fait que ce record, mais ils l'ont très bien fait. La musique est du jazz et de la pop rock fléchie d'un genre que beaucoup de gens ont maintenant oublié (ou peut-être même jamais entendu avant s'ils ont moins de quarante ans). Freeway - Riding High (1975)

Not much is known about Freeway, a short lived quintet who sprang from Melbourne, Australia in the early 70's. Freeway's creative force was legendary aussie guitarist Peter Laffy, who had also been a member of Fox. Another noteworthy member was Criston Barker, formerly of Ash and Hollywood. Freeway's lifespan was rather short, but their sole release, "Riding High" is an impressive one.

On en sait peu sur Freeway, un quintette éphémère qui est né à Melbourne en Australie au début des années 70. La force créatrice de Freeway était le guitariste australien légendaire Peter Laffy, qui avait également été un membre de Fox. Un autre membre notable était Criston Barker, anciennement de Ash et Hollywood. La durée de vie de Freeway a été plutôt courte, mais leur seule création, "Riding High" est impressionnante.

Finch - Nothing To Hide (1978)

A terrific copy of this long 2nd and final album from very under-rated Sydney hard rock band Finch. Their debut album Thunderbird is now considered a semi-progressive rock rarity. Finch trace their roots back to the mid-'70s Sydney-based band Stillwater which featured the talents of guitarist Graham Kennedy, drummer Peter McFarlane, singer Owen Orford, guitarist Gary Quince and Bob Spencer, and bassist Tony Strain.

Une version fantastique de ce long deuxième et dernier album du très sous-évalué groupe de hard rock de Sydney, Finch. Leur premier album Thunderbird est maintenant considéré comme une rareté rock semi-progressive. Audience was a London-based group that recorded their first album in 69 and had their eponymous debut pulled from the stores a few months after its release, which makes the album a major collectible (Cd versions were also hard to come by until a recent reissue). They got signed by Tony Stratton-Smith of the Charisma label  but although not a purely progressive group , they bore a lot of characteristics.

Audience était un groupe basé à Londres qui a enregistré son premier album en 69 et a fait ses débuts éponymes dans les magasins quelques mois après sa sortie, ce qui fait de l'album une collection majeure (les versions Cd étaient également difficiles à trouver jusqu'à une réédition récente ). Baby - Baby (1975)

Baby was an American southern rock band from Texas. The band created its own company Baby Enterprises, Inc., based in Amarillo, Texas, to take care of the range of interests a musical group has. One of its branches was Lone Starr Records to which Baby signed itself in the mid-1970s. Baby had a legion of fans in the Midwest and South in 1975-76 and headlined venues like the famed Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.

White Chocolate - White Chocolate (1973)

White Chocolate dominated the east coast circuit and soon came to the attention of RCA Records, who promptly signed the band and issued their self-titled debut in 1973. The prinicipals of the band quickly regrouped in 1975 under the newly dubbed Dirty Angels and eventually went on to issue two cult classic before imploding at the close of the decade. Members later went on to acts like Joe Perry Project, Farrenheit and Slo Leak.

White Chocolate a dominé le circuit de la côte est et a rapidement attiré l'attention de RCA Records, qui a rapidement signé le groupe et publié son premier album en 1973. Driver - No Accident (1977)

Driver rolled out the No Accident album in 1977, and were never heard from again. Signed to A&M Records, the Canadian power trio will forever be remembered for the rough 'n' tough “Boxful of Love”. In addition, the boys deserve props for “Rock It to the Stars”.

Treasure - Treasure (1977)

Following a pair of solo efforts, Felix Cavaliere recorded under the band name Treasure and released a self-titled AOR-styled album in 1977 which featured future Kiss member Vinnie Vincent on guitar. His album features also a rare appearance by Mahavishnu Orchestra bassist Rick Laird.

Streetwalkers - Red Card (1976)

Red Card was the third and most successful studio album by the UK rock group Streetwalkers, which made the #20 in the UK album charts. The album features the lineup of Roger Chapman, Charlie Whitney, Bobby Tench of The Jeff Beck Group and Hummingbird, Nicko McBrain, who later played drums with Iron Maiden.

Red Card était le troisième et le plus réussi album studio du groupe de rock britannique Streetwalkers, qui a fait la # 20 dans les charts d'album du Royaume-Uni. Gilbert O'Sullivan - A Stranger In My Own Back Yard (1974)

Gilbert O'Sullivan's fourth album, Stranger in My Own Backyard, was recorded in California (at the urging of American-based producer and manager Gordon Mills) in 1974, but only saw release several years later on U.K. shores. The patchiest of O'Sullivan's early albums, Stranger occasionally finds its footing and delivers a witty and well-crafted song or two. 

Le quatrième album de Gilbert O'Sullivan, Stranger in My Own Backyard, a été enregistré en Californie (à la demande du producteur et manager américain Gordon Mills) en 1974, mais n'a été édité que quelques années plus tard sur les côtes britanniquess. Gallagher & Lyle - Breakaway (1976)

The Scottish musical duo of Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle got their first break in a very big way, being signed in 1968 by the Fab Four themselves to work as in-house songwriters for Apple Records and its performers. This is their most successful album to date and contains their 3 international hit singles, 'I Wanna Stay with You', 'Heart on My Sleeve' & 'Breakaway'.

Le duo musical écossais, Benny Gallagher et Graham Lyle, a connu sa première grande percée en étant signé en 1968 par les Fab Four eux-mêmes pour travailler comme compositeurs internes pour Apple Records et ses interprètes."Breakaway" est leur album le plus réussi à ce jour et contient leurs 3 singles à succès internationaux, "I Wanna Stay With Yous", "Heart on My Sleeve" et "Breakaway".

The Flame - The Flame (1970)

One of Carl Wilson’s inspired contributions to the Beach Boys, lead singer Blondie Chaplin and percussionist Ricky Fataar form the core of this unrecognized group. The album was recorded for the Beach Boys’ own Brother Records in 1970. Before this record they were The Flames and fairly popular in South Africa. They even released six records before being spotted by Al Jardine and Carl Wilson in a UK nightclub. The band moved to California, changed their name to The Flame and recorded this solid but long neglected record.

L'une des contributions inspirées de Carl Wilson aux Beach Boys, la chanteuse principale Blondie Chaplin et le percussionniste Ricky Fataar forment le noyau de ce groupe non reconnu. L'album a été enregistré pour le propre label des Beach Boys Brother Records en 1970. Avant ce disque ils étaient The Flames et assez populaires en Afrique du Sud. Ils ont même publié six disques avant d'être repérés par Al Jardine et Carl Wilson dans une boîte de nuit britannique. Le groupe a déménagé en Californie, a changé son nom pour The Flame et a enregistré ce disque solide mais longtemps négligé.

Cry Of Love - Brother (1993)

Cry Of Love was an American rock band, formed in 1989 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The group released their debut album in 1993. Great album all the way through. Too bad this band was short lived. Also hit its mark at the wrong time, during the rise of grunge . Funny thing is, this band achieved what every band is trying to do today, nail that classic rock sound. Not a dud on here. 

Cry Of Love était un groupe de rock américain, formé en 1989 à Raleigh, en Caroline du Nord. Le groupe a sorti son premier album en 1993. Excellent album tout au long. Dommage que ce groupe ait été de courte durée. A probablement frappé sa marque au mauvais moment, au cours de l'ascension du grunge. Ce qui est drôle, c'est que ce groupe a réalisé ce que chaque groupe essaie de faire aujourd'hui, clouer ce son rock classique. Pas un raté ici.
