Freedom - Through The Years (1971)

Freedom was a psychedelic rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s, formed initially by members of Procol Harum. Ray Royer and Bobby Harrison, who had performed on the hit Procol Harum single "A Whiter Shade of Pale", were kicked out of the Harum by vocalist Gary Brooker, and replaced by Robin Trower and Barry Wilson. Royer and Harrison then formed Freedom with Steve Shirley and Tony Marsh, who was immediately replaced by pianist/organist Mike Lease, releasing a two German singles and the soundtrack for the Tinto Brass/Dino de Laurentiis film Attraction (Original title Nerosubianco, also known as Back on White).

Freedom était un groupe de rock psychédélique actif à la fin des années 1960 et au début des années 1970, formé initialement par des membres de Procol Harum. Ray Royer et Bobby Harrison, qui s'étaient produits sur le single à succès "A Whiter Shade of Pale", ont été expulsés de Procol Harum par le chanteur Gary Brooker, et remplacés par Robin Trower et Barry Wilson. Song - Album (1970)

This little known quartet's minor claim to fame is that the lineup included Mickey Rooney, Jr., son of the well-known actor. Produced by Curt Boettcher and released in 1970, "Album" features a sound reminiscent of Badfinger. Shortcomings aside, one can only wonder how the band would have progressed had there been a followup album. Unfortunately, Song was over within a year of the album's release. 

La prétention mineure de ce quatuor peu connu, Song, est que Mickey Rooney, Jr., est bien le fils de l'acteur célèbre. Produit par Curt Boettcher et sorti en 1970, "Album" présente un son qui rappelle celui de Badfinger. Mis à part les lacunes, on ne peut que se demander comment le groupe aurait progressé s'il y avait eu un album supplémentaire. Malheureusement, Song a disparu dans l'année de la sortie de l'album.

Haystacks Balboa - Haystacks Balboa (1970)

Haystacks Balboa came up with this interesting effort in 1970. On the one hand, we have songs with bludgeoning hard rock riffing and growling vocals, but there's also some melodic acoustic material and nice organ playing throughout. Apparently, around 1970/71 they were a support band for the top rock acts of the day like Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull and Ten Years After, but despite the involvement of Leslie West's brother Larry West (ex-Vagrants) in the band (he co-wrote a few tracks), they failed to crack it and broke up within a few years of the album's release. That's a shame, as this album shows a promising band with the right chops who could have been more successful with better management and maybe a different band name, having named themselves after wrestler Haystacks Calhoun.

Haystacks Balboa a proposé cet opus intéressant en 1970. D'une part, nous avons des chansons avec des riffs de hard rock et des voix rauques, mais il y a aussi de la musique acoustique mélodique et du bon orgue. Apparemment, autour de 1970/71 ils étaient un groupe de soutien pour les meilleurs groupes de rock du moment comme Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull et Ten Years After, mais malgré l'implication du frère de Leslie West, Larry West (ex-Vagrants) dans le groupe (il co-écrit quelques titres), ils ont échoué à l'intégrer et ont rompu peu après la sortie de l'album. C'est dommage, car cet album montre un groupe prometteur avec les bons ingrédients qui aurait pu avoir plus de succès avec une meilleure gestion ... et peut-être un nom de groupe différent.

Liquid Smoke - Liquid smoke (1970)

American psychedelic blues rock band emerged in the city of New York in 1969. Their debut LP, "Liquid Smoke" was released in 1970 on AVCO Embassy Records in the US produced by Vinnie Testa... to record CD were used Original US pressing from '70 and is not a later reissue of any kind! Also, for a brief time during this period, Mike Archuleta were putting together a band with Vince Martell, Guitar (of Vanilla Fudge fame) but, the band only played out once (for some local political rally) This album holds, psychedelic sounds, use of vocal harmonies and a blues-rock line,rich,strong sound rare at the 60s-70s heavy obscurities,with great organ Hammond B3 and psychodelic guitars. the New York band's sole self-titled album is classified as very rare consisting of original material written by Vince Fersak and some covers.

Le groupe américain de blues rock psychédélique est apparu dans la ville de New York en 1969. Leur premier album, "Liquid Smoke" sort en 1970 sur AVCO Embassy Records aux Etats-Unis, produit par Vinnie Testa et n'est donc pas une réédition ultérieure d'aucune sorte! Aussi, pendant une courte période, Mike Archuleta a formé un groupe avec Vince Martell, guitariste (de l'illustre Vanilla Fudge), mais le groupe n'a joué qu'une fois (pour un rassemblement politique local). Cet album contient des sons psychédéliques avec pléthore d'harmonies vocales  sur une ligne de blues-rock, sonorité riche et forte rare dans les années 60 à 70, avec de l'orgue Hammond B3 et des guitares psychédéliques. Le seul album éponyme du groupe new-yorkais est classé comme très rare, il est composé de matériel original écrit par Vince Fersak et de quelques reprises.

Burning Tree - Burning Tree (1990)

Burning Tree was an American hard rock/blues rock power trio from Los Angeles, California. The band performed from the late 1980s to 1990. The band was started in 1987, by the guitarist Marc Ford and drummer Doni Gray, and were soon joined by bassist Mark "Muddy" Dutton to complete the three piece, but not before trying half a dozen bass players, including Jay Bentley from Bad Religion. Gray and Dutton had already been playing the local Los Angeles scene in a band called The March, and started an interest playing in a band called Citadel.

Le groupe a été fondé en 1987 par le guitariste Marc Ford et le batteur Doni Grey. Le bassiste Mark "Muddy" Dutton a rapidement rejoint le groupe, mais pas avant d'avoir testé une demi-douzaine de bassistes, dont Jay Bentley de Bad Religion. Gray et Dutton jouaient déjà sur la scène locale de Los Angeles dans un groupe appelé The March, et ont commencé à s'intéresser à un groupe appelé Citadel.

Bull Angus - Bull Angus (1971)

Originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, Bull Angus was an ephemeral band from Hard Rock with bluesy psychedelic inspirations and some major leanings towards Prog.

With four members out of the six who are Italian descendants, the line-up is composed of drummer Geno Charles, guitarists Larry LaFalce and Dino Paolillo, keyboardist Ron Piccolo, singer Frankie Previte (he also plays the recorder and percussion), and bassist Lenny Venditti.

The band has often been compared to an American version of Uriah Heep or perhaps a less oppressive version of Deep Purple.

Originaire de Poughkeepsie, dans l'état de New York, Bull Angus fut un groupe éphémère de Hard Rock avec inspirations bluesy psychédéliques et quelques penchants importants vers le Prog. 

Avec quatre membres sur les six qui sont des descendants Italiens, le line-up est composé du batteur Geno Charles, des guitaristes Larry LaFalce et Dino Paolillo, du claviériste Ron Piccolo, du chanteur Frankie Previte (il joue aussi de la flûte à bec et des percussions), et du bassiste Lenny Venditti. 

Le groupe a souvent été comparé à une version Américaine de Uriah Heep ou peut-être encore une version moins oppressive de Deep Purple.

Navasota - Navasota (1972)

Steve Long (guitar), Ray Pawlik (guitar), Dicky Sony (vocals), Lindsey Minter (drums), and Paul Minter (bass) formed the band Navasota. Navasota had signed a record deal with ABC Dunhill Records in 1972 and they were off to Los Angeles to record the album Rootin´. This album was produced by Gary Katz, and Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of Steely Dan fame!

Such artists as Skunk Baxter and Mark Volman and Howie Kaylan, from the Turtles, were featured on the album, and Donald Fagen also played piano on some of the songs, Fagen and Becker even wrote the song “Canyon Ladies” for the effort.

Steve Long (guitare), Ray Pawlik (guitare), Dicky Sony (chant), Lindsey Minter (batterie) et Paul Minter (basse) composaient le groupe Navasota. Navasota avait signé un contrat d'enregistrement avec ABC Dunhill Records en 1972 et sont partis à Los Angeles pour enregistrer l'album Rootin'. Velvett Fogg were a British psychedelic rock band. Tony Iommi was a member in mid-1968, but soon left to form Black Sabbath.The other band members were drummer Graham Mullett, bass guitarist Mick Pollard, and Londoner Frank Wilson who played Hammond organ. The band were soon off to Germany where they spent most of the year playing at army bases and clubs. 

Velvett Fogg était un groupe de rock psychédélique britannique. Tony Iommi en était membre à la mi-1968, mais il est bientôt parti pour former Black Sabbath. Jodo - Guts (1971)

Jodo were a British band whose sole album was only released in the US at the time. Killer heavy-rock sound with ultra loud fuzzed out guitars and melodic vocals. Engineered by Martin Birch (B. Sabbath, D. Purple, B.O.C.) and produced by Derek Lawrence (D. Purple, Green Bullfrog).

Jodo était un groupe britannique dont l'unique album était sorti exclusivement aux États-Unis à l'époque. Un son heavy-rock tueur avec des guitares ultra bruyantes et des voix mélodiques. Conçu par Martin Birch (B. Sabbath, D. Purple, B.O.C.) et produit par Derek Lawrence (D. Purple, Green Bullfrog).

Michael Des Barres could sing loudly, rob fashion stores and use all his talents as actors to capsize the crowds and hearts - his filmograhy is significantly more than his discography ... - Silverhead had to throw in the towel after only two years of existence, let loose by their management and their label (which were only one).

There are two endearing studio albums, "Silverhead" (1972, produced by Martin Birch), "16 And Savaged" (1973, with Robbie Blunt on guitar, future accompanist of Robert Plant) and a raw gross live recorded at Rainbow. London in first part of Nazareth, released two years after the dissolution of the group, and exclusively in Japan, where Des Barres and his band left a moving memory.

Michael Des Barres avait beau chanter à gorge déployée, dévaliser les boutiques de mode et utiliser tous ses talents de comédiens pour faire chavirer les foules et les cœurs, Silverhead dû jeter l’éponge après seulement deux années d’existence, lâché par leur management et leur label (qui ne faisaient qu’un).

Restent deux albums studio attachants, “Silverhead” (1972, produit par Martin Birch), “16 And Savaged” (1973, avec Robbie Blunt à la guitare, futur accompagnateur de Robert Plant) et un live brut de chez brut enregistré au Rainbow de Londres en première partie de Nazareth, sorti deux ans après la dissolution du groupe, et exclusivement au Japon, où Des Barres et sa bande ont laissé un souvenir ému.

Attempting to put together core members of the Daily Flash, Bodine was formed in April 1968 in Los Angeles California, creating a new format for original music compositions. This union of impressive musicians brought together David Brooks on keyboards from Berkeley, CA; Eric Carl on vocals and guitar from New York; Steve Lalor from Seattle on guitar and vocals; Kerry Magness from Seattle/Yakima on vocals and bass; and Jon Keliehor on drums from Seattle. 

Dans le but de rassembler les membres partis du Daily Flash, Bodine fut formé en avril 1968 à Los Angeles en Californie, créant un nouveau format pour des compositions musicales originales.
