Released in 1969 on Vanguard Records, The Floating Opera is the lone album by a short-lived New York-based project led by singer-guitarist Paul DiCapo. The record blends folk-rock, baroque pop, and light psychedelia, reminiscent of The Left Banke, The Association, or Simon & Garfunkel. With lush arrangements, soft harmonies, and a gentle melancholic touch, the album has become a cult favorite among fans of sophisticated and understated American pop from the late '60s.
