By 17, he had penned the entire Outburst! album for The Wailers (Tacoma). His poetic sensibility earned comparisons to Dylan and Lennon, notably by Joan Baez.

He signed to A&M Records in 1970 and released Silent Song Through the Land. His song “It Ain’t Easy” became a rock standard, famously covered by David Bowie, Three Dog Night, and others. His 1978 album I Don’t Believe It is a mature and subtle blend of folk and country rock, later reissued in 2010 by Big Pink.

Davies moved to Nashville in 1985 and wrote for Cedarwood and Warner/Chappell. He passed away in 2003, but his legacy endures—especially through the 2013 tribute album Unsung Hero, which featured contributions from Dolly Parton, John Prine, Alison Krauss, and more.

After leaving the group in late 1968, Stephens released his debut solo album Red Weather in 1969. The album offers a much more melodic and laid-back psychedelic approach, showcasing his songwriting and softer guitar textures.
