Ron Davies, né le 15 janvier 1946 à Shreveport (Louisiane), était un auteur-compositeur de talent précoce, issu d’une famille baignée dans la musique country. Après une enfance au Texas et en Oklahoma, il s’installe dans l’État de Washington, où il compose dès l’âge de 11 ans. À 17 ans, il écrit l'intégralité de l'album Outburst! du groupe The Wailers. Sa plume fine et sensible lui attire rapidement l’estime de ses pairs.

Repéré à San Francisco dans les années 1960, il se lie d’amitié avec Tim Hardin, puis signe chez A&M Records en 1970, où il publie Silent Song Through the Land. Son titre emblématique "It Ain’t Easy" devient un classique repris par David Bowie, Three Dog Night, Long John Baldry, et bien d'autres. En 1978, il livre I Don’t Believe It, un album plus personnel où se mêlent folk rock et country teinté de lyrisme.

Plus tard, installé à Nashville, il devient un auteur respecté pour de nombreux artistes. Il meurt prématurément en 2003, laissant une œuvre sous-estimée mais célébrée par ses pairs dans l’album hommage Unsung Hero (2013).

Ron Davies was born on January 15, 1946, in Shreveport, Louisiana. A child prodigy of songwriting, he grew up in Texas and Oklahoma before moving to Washington State, where he began writing music at age 11. By 17, he had penned the entire Outburst! album for The Wailers (Tacoma). His poetic sensibility earned comparisons to Dylan and Lennon, notably by Joan Baez.

He signed to A&M Records in 1970 and released Silent Song Through the Land. His song “It Ain’t Easy” became a rock standard, famously covered by David Bowie, Three Dog Night, and others. His 1978 album I Don’t Believe It is a mature and subtle blend of folk and country rock, later reissued in 2010 by Big Pink.

Davies moved to Nashville in 1985 and wrote for Cedarwood and Warner/Chappell. He passed away in 2003, but his legacy endures—especially through the 2013 tribute album Unsung Hero, which featured contributions from Dolly Parton, John Prine, Alison Krauss, and more.
