Plum Nelly - Deceptive Lines (1971)

This album consists of six songs. With the exception of 'Never Done' which concludes the album, all tracks are in a long and complex format like in the heyday of the British prog. In short, far from a psychedelic pop rock that characterizes the US in the second half of the 60's.Plum Nelly is more than a group of acid rock. As the album title that can be translated by misleading lines, this album seems to hesitate between psyche, hard rock and prog.

Cet album est composé de six chansons. A l'exception de 'Never Done' qui conclut l'album, tous les titres sont dans un format long et complexe comme à la grande époque du prog anglais. Bref, loin d'une pop psychédélique qui caractérise le rock US de la seconde moitié des 60's.
Plum Nelly est bien plus qu'un groupe d'acid rock. Comme l'indique le titre de l'album que l'on peut traduire par lignes trompeuses, cet opus semble hésiter entre psyché, hard rock et prog.

Gentle Giant - Octopus (1972)

Octopus as The Dark Side Of The Moon Pink Floyd or Close to The Edge for Yes, is considered the most successful album of the band. It is true that we find here all elements that have marked the world of Gentle Giant, this time less smoothly, where the transitions between songs are steeper, making sure that we go to one genre to another without prior preparation. On this fourth album, the medieval influence is ever present, their love of counterpoint is pushed to the sophistication of heights hitherto unequaled virtuosity and does not prevent them to write a poignant ballads of romance ( 'Think of me with Kindness'). In fact, more than a summit, Octopus is mainly the end of a chapter since, out of this session, the third of the Shulman brothers, Philip, will leave the ship, forcing our gifted to new perspectives.

Octopus, comme The Dark Side of The Moon pour Pink Floyd ou Close to The Edge pour Yes, est considéré comme l'album le plus réussi du groupe. Il est vrai que l'on retrouve ici tous les éléments qui ont déjà marqué  l'univers de Gentle Giant, cette fois de manière moins fluide, où les transitions entre les titres sont plus abruptes, faisant en sorte que l'on passe d'un genre à l'autre sans préparation préalable. Sur ce quatrième album, l''influence médiévale est toujours plus présente, leur amour du contrepoint est poussé vers des sommets de sophistication jusque là inégalés et leur virtuosité ne les empêche pas d'écrire des ballades d'un romantisme poignant ('Think of Me with Kindness'). En réalité, plus qu'un sommet, Octopus est surtout la fin d'un chapitre puisqu'au sortir de cette session, le troisième des frères Shulman, Philip, va quitter le navire, obligeant nos surdoués à entrevoir de nouvelles perspectives.

Irish Coffee - Irish Coffee (1971)

Irish Coffee is a hard rock band native of Aalst in East Flanders, Belgium, which officially started playing under that name in 1970. They are best known for their single 'Masterpiece' has worked well in the charts Belgian. Their musical style was a combination of hard rock and blues rock, with hot parts of lead guitar and good voice much stronger.
The band split in 1975 before reforming in 2002 with a new organist and a new bass player.

Irish Coffee est un groupe de hard rock originaire de Aalst, en Flandre-Orientale, en Belgique, qui a officiellement commencé à jouer sous ce nom en 1970. Ils sont surtout connu pour leur single 'Masterpiece', qui a bien marché dans les charts belges. Leur style musical était une combinaison de hard rock et de blues rock, avec de torrides parties de lead guitare et des bons vocaux bien forts. 

Le groupe s'est séparé en 1975, avant de se reformer en 2002 avec un nouvel organiste et un nouveau bassiste.

Bachdenkel - Lemmings (1973)

Bachdenkel consisted of vocalist, guitarist and bassist, Peter Kimberley, guitarist Colin Swinburn and drummer Brian Smith. This was one of the most influential groups of the music scene in Birmingham, which saw the rise of the culture and psyche of the electric rock music. After settling in Paris, they recorded two albums during the 70s, but they took their time to find a producer: Lemmings their first album, recorded in 1970, came out in 1973, because nobody wanted ultra melancholic black text and these fatalistic dark out there knows where. Through an advertising campaign somewhat orthodox (their name was displayed everywhere), it is finally the Philips record label that will achieve this record in 1973. Bachdenkel therefore having lived all this time in France, the group has not been fully been integrated into contemporary currents of British prog. The result gives us great songs, with a superb lyricism unusual and unique and hot songs Colin Swinburne and that makes this album an experiment highly recommended ...

Le groupe Bachdenkel se composait du chanteur, guitariste et bassiste, Peter Kimberley, du guitariste Colin Swinburn et du batteur Brian Smith. Ce fut l'un des groupes les plus déterminants de la scène musicale de Birmingham, qui voyait la montée de la culture psyché et de la rock music électrique.
Après s'être installés à Paris, ils enregistrèrent deux albums pendant les années 70. Mais, ils leur fallut du temps pour trouver un producteur : leur premier album Lemmings, enregistré en 1970, ne sortit qu'en 1973, car personne ne voulait des textes ultra mélancoliques et noirs de ces sombres fatalistes sortis on ne sait d'où. Grâce à une campagne publicitaire quelque peu orthodoxe (leur nom était affiché partout), c'est finalement la maison de disque Philips qui va réaliser ce disque en 1973.
Bachdenkel ayant donc vécu pendant tout ce temps en France, le groupe n'a pas été entièrement été intégré dans les courants contemporains de la prog britannique. Le résultat nous donne des chansons magnifiques, avec un superbe lyrisme inhabituel et les chants uniques et chauds de Colin Swinburne et cela fait de cet album une expérience fortement recommandé...

Here is the third album of an English progressive group little known, but the extensive discography. Jade Warrior has experienced several periods. This third disc drops the first time (called Vertigo, his first record company) and it is the most rock / psyche. There flute, acoustic guitars, some electrical surges, sound experiments and a beautiful song can recall the very first King Crimson.

Voici le 3ème album d'un groupe progressif anglais peu connu, mais à la discographie abondante. Jade Warrior a connu plusieurs périodes. Ce 3ème disque clot la première époque (dite Vertigo, de sa première maison de disques) et il s'agit de la plus rock/psyché. Il y a de la flûte, des guitares acoustiques, quelques envolées électriques, des expérimentations sonores et un chant très beau pouvant rappeller le tout premier King Crimson.

Highway Robbery - For Love Or Money (1972)

Highway Robbery is an American rock band comprising Don Francisco (vocals, drums), Michael Stevens (guitar) and John Livingston Tunison (bass). With lyrics containing numerous references to the 60, Highway Robbery had balanced their hippie idealism with hard rock arrangements reminiscent of early Black Sabbath. The combination was winning, but their names ended up confusing the record buyers and also for their record label, which has ousted shortly after the release of the album.

Highway Robbery est un groupe de rock américain comprenant Don Francisco (chant, batterie) , Michael Stevens (guitare) et John Livingston Tunison (basse). Avec des paroles contenant des références innombrables aux années 60, Highway Robbery avait équilibré leur idéalisme hippie avec des arrangements hard rock rappelant le début de Black Sabbath . La combinaison était gagnante, mais leur nom a fini par semer la confusion chez les acheteurs de disques et aussi pour leur maison de disques, qui les a évincés peu après la sortie de l'album.

Year One - Year One (1971)

Year One was a US short life band that was founded in 1970 by Bob Robbins (bass), Jim DeMeo (guitar), Mario Russo (keyboards) and Greg Kimple (drums). Under their previous name Fantasy, they had some success, but when the charismatic singer Jamene Miller left this formation in 1970 to pursue a solo career, they decided to drop this name and continue as Year One.

Year One fut un groupe US de courte vie qui a été fondé en 1970 par Bob Robbins (basse) , Jim DeMeo (guitare), Mario Russo (claviers) et Greg Kimple (batterie). Sous leur nom précédent Fantasy, ils avaient connu un certain succès, mais quand le chanteur charismatique Jamene Miller a quitté cette formation en 1970 pour poursuivre une carrière solo, ils ont décidé de laisser tomber ce nom et de continuer comme Year One.

Brainticket - Psychonaut (1972)

Brainticket was formed by Swiss, Belgian and Italian musicians in the late 1960s group often changing personnel had as pillars Joel Vandroogenbroeck (organ, flute), Wolfgang Paap (tabla) and Ron Bryer (guitar). Their progressive psychedelic music has strong trend can rival that of Can, Amon Düül and others.

Brainticket fut formé par des musiciens suisses, belges et italiens vers la fin des années 1960. Le groupe changeant souvent de personnel, eu comme piliers Joël Vandroogenbroeck (orgue, flûte), Wolfgang Paap (tabla) et Ron Bryer (guitare). Leur musique progressive a forte tendance psychédélique peut rivaliser avec celle des Can, Amon Düül et autres.

String Driven Thing is a Scottish band of the 70's that could be called crypto progressive folk-rock. He was part of the Charisma stable with Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator and Lindisfarne. The violin Grahame Smith (Van Der Graaf future) and the great compositions of Chris Adams are abrasive album, sometimes dissonant, but who through the years keeping an otherwise higher relevance than many successes of the time we has now hardly listen.

String Driven Thing est un groupe écossais des 70's que l'on pourrait qualifier de crypto folk-rock progressif. Il a fait partie de l'écurie Charisma avec Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator et Lindisfarne. Le violon de Grahame Smith (futur Van Der Graaf) et les formidables compositions de Chris Adams font un album abrasif, parfois dissonant, mais qui a traversé les années en conservant une pertinence autrement plus forte que bien des succès de l'époque qu'on a désormais peine à réécouter.

The Neutrons - Black Hole Star (1974)

This 70s short training is an offshoot of the Welsh psychedelic band Man. Two of its members, namely Phil Ryan keyboard player and guitarist / bassist Will Youatt, formed a partnership in 1973 to form neutrons with drummer John Weathers (Gentle Giant) and violinist Stuart Gordon (ncredible String Band). While Man music was mainly based on guitars, Neutrons focus on keyboards; the extensive use of synthesizers decorated slight folk harmonies characterize their sound.

Cette formation de courte durée des années 70 est une émanation du groupe gallois psychédélique Man. Deux de ses membres, à savoir le joueur de claviers Phil Ryan et le guitariste / bassiste Will Youatt , s'associèrent en 1973 pour former les Neutrons avec le batteur John Weathers (Gentle Giant) et le violoniste Stuart Gordon ( ncredible String Band). Alors que la musique de Man était principalement basée sur les guitares, les Neutrons se concentrent sur les claviers ; l'utilisation intensive des synthétiseurs agrémentés de légères harmonies folk caractérise leur son.

Zzebra - Panic (1975)

After leaving If in 73, Quincy Dave and Terry Smith join Tommy Eyre (keyboards, ex Riff Raff and Joe Cocker Band) and Loughty Amao (sax, ex Osibisa) to form Zzebra. This training 7 musicians produced a first album without much interest, but makes up in 1975 with their second and last album Panic, lively album, rhythmic and airy, where Dave Quincy done wonders for saxes ( 'Karrola') and Tommy Eyre, with the peculiar keyboard sound that is his ( 'Death by Drowning', 'Tree').

Après avoir quitté If en 73, Dave Quincy et Terry Smith se joignent à Tommy Eyre (claviers, ex Riff Raff et Joe Cocker band), et à Loughty Amao (sax, ex Osibisa) pour former Zzebra. Cette formation de 7 musiciens produisit un premier album sans grand intérêt, mais se rattrape en 1975 avec leur 2ème et dernier disque Panic, album très vif, rythmé et aéré, où Dave Quincy fait merveilles aux saxes ('Karrola'), ainsi que Tommy Eyre, avec le son de clavier si particulier qui est le sien ('Death By Drowning', 'Tree').
