In this album, the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band welcomes the public to its concert. Everything, to the innovative bag - it opens, it contains the lyrics printed on the back, it is provided with a board accessories cutting, a first in rock - and exuberant colors, makes this drive a pioneer of the concept album, if only by its impact. The biographer Steve Turner writes: 'almost all the conventions governing the 33 towers were violated'. Yet beyond the character of Billy Shears (played by Ringo Starr), which makes the link between the title song and With a Little Help from My Friends, the songs are mostly no relation between them. To ensure the consistency of the project, group, on an idea of ​​his assistant Neil Aspinall, decides to take the title song in penultimate song ( 'thank you, we hope you enjoyed the show, but we are sorry it's time to go '), faster, more rock, and in a different key. And sometimes, chance would have it; the cry of the cock you hear at the end of Good Morning Good Morning is in the same key as the first agreement of the resumption of Sgt Pepper and therefore can launch it. The album closes with the long decrescendo an E major chord - played simultaneously on all the pianos available in Abbey Road Studios by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, George Martin and Mal Evans - a whistling 20 kHz, inaudible to humans but intended to barking dogs, and an endless jingle on the inside groove. If Sgt. Pepper is not a concept album in the strictly musical sense, there is one just because its authors have thought well and have indicated.

Si Sgt. Pepper n'est pas un album-concept au sens strictement musical, il en est un tout simplement parce que ses auteurs l'ont pensé ainsi et l'ont fait savoir.
