Canned Heat's origins are in a community of blues record collectors, who met for several years in the home of Bob Hite to exchange their findings. In 1965, several regulars decided to form a jug band, which includes two future members of Canned Heat, Bob Hite and Alan Wilson. They were soon joined by guitarist Henry Vestine, freshly excluded Mothers of Invention Frank Zappa to inadvertent drug use, then by drummer Frank Cook, a young veteran who notably played the stars of sides of jazz such as Charlie Haden and Chet Baker. Hired by producer Johnny Otis, in 1966 the band recorded their first album, which will come out in 1970, once gained fame under the title Vintage. The disc contains mostly covers of blues standards, including Rollin 'and Tumblin', Spoonful Willie Dixon Louise and John Lee Hooker. Their bassist Stuart Brotman, who left the group to indulge in world music (especially he accompanied a belly dancer and then formed the Kaleidoscope Group), the Group draws alternately several musicians before securing his choice in March 1967 on Larry Taylor.
