Kingfish est un groupe américain de rock formé au début des années 1970 à San Francisco, principalement connu pour avoir compté dans ses rangs Bob Weir, membre des Grateful Dead. Le groupe mêle rock californien, country rock et blues, dans une veine typique de la scène « jam » de la côte ouest. Live 'N' Kicking, enregistré en public en 1976 et sorti en 1977, capture l’énergie brute et festive du groupe sur scène. Le disque est un vibrant témoignage de leur talent collectif et de la complicité musicale tissée autour de solos de guitare et de longues improvisations.

Live 'N' Kickin 'est le deuxième album du groupe de rock Kingfish. Il a été enregistré en direct au Roxy à West Hollywood, en Californie. Bien que le guitariste Bob Weir ait joué avec le groupe pendant la performance, il était revenu à jouer à plein temps avec le Grateful Dead au moment où l'album a été produit. Dans le but de forger une identité distincte pour Kingfish, les morceaux contenant le jeu et le chant de Weir ont donc été retirés du mélange.

Kingfish emerged from the vibrant Bay Area scene of the 1970s, gaining attention when Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir joined the band. Blending rock, country, and rhythm & blues, Kingfish developed a laid-back yet dynamic style steeped in the West Coast jam tradition. Live 'N' Kicking (1977) is a live album capturing the band in top form. With extended jams, tight interplay, and a palpable onstage chemistry, the album remains a beloved artifact of an era where live performance was the heart of the rock experience.

Live 'N' Kickin' is the second album by the rock group Kingfish. It was recorded live at the Roxy in West Hollywood, California.Though guitarist Bob Weir played with the band during the performance, he had returned to playing full time with the Grateful Dead by the time the album was produced. With the goal of forging a separate identity for Kingfish, tracks containing Weir's playing and singing were therefore removed from the mix.

Sans pour autant faire l'effet de l'arrivée d'un chien dans un jeu de quilles, ce tout premier album de Taj Mahal débarqua dans l'univers du blues de cette fin des années 60 en bousculant déjà quelques conventions du genre. Le chanteur-guitariste-harmoniciste a alors 26 ans, et sa manière de chanter, déjà, doit davantage à Wilson Pickett qu'à Albert Collins. Taj Mahal ne se prive pourtant pas, dès cet enregistrement originel, de et de piller le répertoire classique avec des emprunts à Robert Johnson ("Dust My Broom") à Willie Mc Tell ("Statesboro Blues") ou à Sleepy John Estes ("Leaving Trunk" et aussi le très jovial "Everybody's Got To Change Sometime"). Mahal apparaît comme un novateur dans sa façon d'accéder au blues, de le doper de l'intérieur, en le dotant notamment d'une interprétation instrumentale impeccable. Dont celle de Ry Cooder qui n'est pas le moindre des acteurs, lui qui se partage les guitares avec Jessie Ed Davis, Taj Mahal se chargeant de la slide. C'est ainsi une formation des plus déterminées et des plus complètes – avec une redoutable section rythmique – qui signe là l'un des maillons essentiels de la jeune scène blues en train de naître alors.

Without making the effect of the arrival of a dog in a game of bowling, this first album of Taj Mahal landed in the world of blues of the late 60s already jostling some conventions of the genre. The singer-guitarist-harmonicist is then 26 years old, and his manner of singing already owes more to Wilson Pickett than to Albert Collins. Taj Mahal does not deprive himself, however, from this original recording, and loot the classic repertoire with borrowing Robert Johnson ("Dust My Broom") Willie Mc Tell ("Statesboro Blues") or Sleepy John Estes (" Leaving Trunk "and also the very jolly" Everybody's Got Sometime Change "). Mahal appears as an innovator in his way to access the blues, to boost it from the inside, giving it including an impeccable instrumental performance. If you like Joe Walsh, then you'll love this record, his final studio album with James Gang. The band were never the same again, despite the injection of great guitarists such as Tommy Bolin and Domenic Troiano. Walsh, of course, has made a handful of great solo records as well as three Eagles records. He clearly came out the winner in the split with The Gang.

After the departure of his principal composer Gary Wright, the three founding members of Spooky Tooth, the singer Mike Harrison, the drummer Mike Kellie and the guitarist Luther Grosvenor, recruit the guitarist and the bassist of the Grease Band of Joe Cocker: Henry McCullough and Alan Spenner. The new band finds the time to record an ultimate album because the band decided to split later, entitled The Last Puff. Spooky Tooth opens his album with an absolutely extraordinary flamboyant version of I Am The Walrus; so much so that some amateurs prefer it to the original Beatles.
