Kasper est un obscur groupe de rock originaire de Saint-Louis, Missouri, actif durant la seconde moitié des années 70. Formé autour de Chuck Ashley (claviers, chant), Ed Callison (batterie, chant), Mark Hollenburg (basse) et Tom Herget (guitare), le groupe propose un unique album en 1976 : Hammered. Publié sur le label indépendant Lark Ellen Records, cet album confidentiel incarne à merveille l’esthétique brute et sincère du rock américain de cette époque.
Enregistré au Technisonic Studios de Saint-Louis, Hammered est un concentré de rock sudiste mêlé de hard rock, porté par des compositions exclusivement signées Chuck Ashley. Les morceaux alternent entre ballades mélancoliques et envolées électriques, dans un esprit résolument seventies. Oublié du grand public, le disque jouit aujourd’hui d’un statut culte auprès des collectionneurs et des passionnés de rock vintage.

Kasper was a short-lived rock band from St. Louis, Missouri, active in the mid-1970s. Comprising Chuck Ashley (keyboards, vocals), Ed Callison (drums, vocals), Mark Hollenburg (bass), and Tom Herget (guitar), the band released its sole album, Hammered, in 1976 on the small Lark Ellen Records label. Recorded at Technisonic Studios, the album showcases a blend of Southern rock and hard rock influences, capturing the raw, authentic spirit of the era.
Although Hammered did not find commercial success at the time, it has gained a cult following for its heartfelt songwriting and vintage production. All songs were written by Chuck Ashley, whose melodic sense and bluesy undertones define the album’s character. Today, it stands as a sought-after rarity among vinyl collectors and fans of 70s underground rock.
