Créée initialement comme une courte cantate pour une école de Londres en 1968, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat est l’une des premières collaborations d’Andrew Lloyd Webber et Tim Rice. Cette première version enregistrée en 1969 conserve une approche très dépouillée, mélangeant pop orchestrale, chœurs scolaires et touches de rock léger. Inspirée du récit biblique de Joseph, fils préféré de Jacob, l’œuvre raconte son parcours, de la trahison de ses frères à son ascension en Égypte. Ce disque reste un témoignage rare des débuts de deux futurs géants de la comédie musicale.

Originally conceived as a short cantata for a London school in 1968, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoatis one of the earliest collaborations between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The 1969 original recording retains a stripped-down feel, combining light rock, orchestral pop, and school choirs. Based on the biblical story of Joseph, Jacob’s favourite son, it narrates his journey from betrayal by his brothers to his rise in Egypt. This album is a rare document of the early days of two future musical theatre giants.
