Originaire de Wisconsin, le power trio Soup publie en 1971 son deuxième album éponyme, dans une veine hard rock psychédélique fortement teintée de blues, à la manière de Cream ou Blue Cheer. Mené par le charismatique Doug Yankus, le groupe développe des compositions dynamiques, parfois expérimentales, portées par de longues improvisations instrumentales. L’album Soup est devenu au fil du temps un disque culte, rare et recherché, témoin d’une scène américaine underground aussi vibrante que méconnue.
