Originaire de Montello, Wisconsin, Underground Sunshine est un groupe éphémère dont la carrière a été propulsée en 1969 par une reprise enlevée de « Birthday » des Beatles, qui connut un certain succès aux États-Unis. Leur unique album Let There Be Light, sorti la même année chez Mercury Records, oscille entre garage rock, pop psychédélique et touches de sunshine pop. L’ensemble reflète bien l’énergie brute et juvénile d’un groupe de lycéens amateurs soudain propulsés sur le devant de la scène. Underground Sunshine hailed from Montello, Wisconsin, and rose to brief fame in 1969 with their Beatles cover “Birthday,” which charted in the U.S. Their sole album Let There Be Light was released the same year on Mercury Records. A mix of garage rock, early psych, and light pop elements, the album captures the raw energy of a young group swept into the industry spotlight. Though short-lived, their sound reflects the spirit of late-'60s American underground rock with a catchy, lo-fi edge.
