Originaire de l’Illinois, String Cheese est un obscur groupe américain dont l’unique album, éponyme, a été publié en 1971 sur le label Project 3. Sous ses allures discrètes se cache un bijou de psyché-jazz progressif, mâtiné de soul, de rock West Coast et d’improvisations planantes. Le son du groupe évoque parfois Spirit, It's a Beautiful Day, voire Chicago Transit Authority dans leurs envolées les plus libres.
