Originaire de la région de Boston, The Fort Mudge Memorial Dump publie en 1969 son unique album éponyme sur le label Mercury. Porté par la voix puissante de Caroline Stratton, ce groupe américain développe un rock psychédélique aux inflexions blues et parfois folk, dans la lignée de Jefferson Airplane ou Big Brother & The Holding Company. La guitare tranchante de Dean Keady, les claviers discrets mais présents, et une section rythmique bien ancrée confèrent à l’ensemble un son organique, parfois rural, toujours habité. S’il n’a pas rencontré de succès commercial à sa sortie, l’album est aujourd’hui considéré comme un joyau obscur du psyché américain de la fin des sixties.

Hailing from Massachusetts, The Fort Mudge Memorial Dump released their self-titled and only album in 1969. With powerful female vocals courtesy of Caroline Stratton and a mix of bluesy psych rock and earthy folk influences, the band crafted a distinct sound in the vein of Jefferson Airplane or Ultimate Spinach. The fuzz guitar work, grounded rhythms, and occasional organ textures create a mood both raw and melodic. Though overlooked at the time, the album has gained recognition among collectors of obscure late-60s American psychedelia.
