Fondé par les frères Terry et John Michael Talbot, Mason Proffit est l’un des groupes pionniers du country rock américain. Leur premier album Wanted, sorti en 1969, mêle avec habileté bluegrass, folk, rock psychédélique et country protestataire, dans un esprit résolument engagé. Le groupe s’y démarque par des harmonies soignées, des thèmes sociaux forts (notamment avec "Two Hangmen") et une instrumentation acoustique raffinée. Ce disque, bien que peu diffusé à l’époque, est devenu culte chez les amateurs de country rock alternatif et des racines américaines contestataires.

Mason Proffit, formed by brothers Terry and John Michael Talbot, was one of the earliest and most distinctive voices in the American country rock movement. Their debut album Wanted, released in 1969, blends folk, bluegrass, and rockwith strong political overtones and spiritual undercurrents. Highlighted by the haunting track "Two Hangmen", the album delivers tight vocal harmonies and a pioneering fusion of rustic Americana and protest music. Although it didn’t achieve massive commercial success, Wanted has since gained status as a cult classic in the roots-rock canon.
