Originaire de Detroit, Frijid Pink s’est fait connaître en 1970 avec une reprise heavy et saturée du classique House of the Rising Sun. Groupe emblématique du hard rock psychédélique américain, il livre avec Defrosted son deuxième opus, plus musclé et bluesy que le précédent. L’album conserve la rugosité de leur premier disque tout en y injectant davantage de structures blues-rock classiques, parfois proches du Grand Funk Railroad ou du Ten Years After période Woodstock. Le chant rauque de Kelly Green et les riffs tranchants de Gary Ray Thompson donnent à cet album une puissance brute qui le distingue dans le paysage du proto-hard rock américain.

Hailing from Detroit, Frijid Pink gained early fame with their fuzz-heavy version of House of the Rising Sun. Their sophomore album Defrosted (1970) saw them diving deeper into heavy blues-rock territory, shedding some of the psychedelic leanings of their debut in favor of grittier, riff-driven material. With Kelly Green’s soulful vocals and Gary Ray Thompson’s searing guitar work, Defrosted channels the raw energy of the Motor City rock scene, reminiscent of Grand Funk Railroad, Cactus, or Mountain. A solid entry in the hard rock canon of the early ’70s.
