Sorti en 1969 sur le label Tower Records (filiale de Capitol), Scorpion est l’unique album éponyme d’un groupe californien méconnu. Formé autour de Michael Gately et Perry Leopold (parfois confondu avec un homonyme), Scorpion propose un rock psychédélique rugueux aux accents heavy et bluesy. L’album alterne entre décharges de guitares fuzz, lignes de basse charnues et ambiances sombres voire proto-métalliques, tout en conservant des structures mélodiques solides. À la croisée du garage, du psyché acide et du hard rock naissant, Scorpion séduit par son intensité brute et son grain analogique très marqué.

Released in 1969 on Tower Records (a Capitol sublabel), Scorpion is the sole album of a little-known Californian band. Built around Michael Gately and Perry Leopold (often confused with a namesake), the band delivers raw psychedelic rock infused with bluesy heaviness and proto-metal riffs. Fuzzed-out guitars, thick bass lines, and dark atmospheres dominate the album, while retaining melodic songwriting. At the crossroads of garage, acid psych, and emerging hard rock, Scorpion stands out for its gritty intensity and unmistakably analog sound.
