L’album est divisé en deux parties : une face avec Bloomfield, captée en studio en une journée, et une autre avec Stills, venu remplacer Bloomfield parti brusquement. Le résultat ? Un mélange de blues rock incandescent, d’improvisations inspirées et d’atmosphères psychédéliques, porté par la virtuosité de ses interprètes. Super Session est devenu un classique, apprécié pour sa spontanéité et son esprit libre.

Released in 1968, Super Session was a groundbreaking collaborative album bringing together three legendary talents: Mike Bloomfield, known for his fiery blues guitar work; Al Kooper, the creative force behind Blood, Sweat & Tears; and Stephen Stills, fresh from Buffalo Springfield. The album was recorded in just two sessions—Bloomfield played on the first half before leaving unexpectedly, prompting Kooper to call in Stills for the second half. The result is a loose, jam-heavy album filled with blistering guitar, soulful organ, and experimental flourishes. A landmark of late ’60s rock, Super Session still shines with its raw energy and genre-crossing vibe.
