Formé à Long Island, New York, Liquid Smoke fut un groupe éphémère de rock psychédélique et soul-rock qui n’enregistra qu’un seul album en 1970 pour le label Avco Embassy. Emmené par le chanteur Danny Brendle, le groupe proposait un son puissant mêlant guitares fuzz, orgue Hammond et chœurs énergiques, dans une veine proche de Vanilla Fudge ou The Chambers Brothers. L’album, marqué par une reprise nerveuse de “Hard to Handle” (Otis Redding) et par une production ambitieuse, ne rencontra pas le succès commercial malgré un potentiel évident. L’œuvre est aujourd’hui redécouverte comme un témoignage vibrant de la scène psyché-soul de la côte Est américaine.

Hailing from Long Island, New York, Liquid Smoke was a short-lived psych-soul rock band that released a sole LP in 1970 on Avco Embassy. Fronted by vocalist Danny Brendle, the group crafted a heavy, organ-drenched sound blending hard rock, fuzz guitar, and soulful vocals reminiscent of Vanilla Fudge or The Chambers Brothers. The album features both original material and a standout cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle.” Despite its strong performances and bold production, the record went largely unnoticed at the time. Today, it is considered a hidden gem of early 70s American psych-soul rock.
