Uncle Dog était un groupe de rock britannique formé à Londres à l’automne 1971. Porté par la voix puissante et expressive de Carol Grimes, le groupe s’inscrit dans la tradition du rock bluesy enrichi de sonorités folk et soul, propre au début des années 70. Le noyau créatif du groupe comprenait également David Skinner, ancien membre de Twice As Much et collaborateur de nombreux artistes de l’époque.

En 1972, Uncle Dog publie son unique album, Old Hat, sous le label Signpost Records. Ce disque, bien qu’ayant reçu peu d’attention commerciale à sa sortie, a gagné au fil des années un statut culte parmi les amateurs de rock vintage britannique. Il offre une variété d’atmosphères musicales, mêlant ballades intimistes et morceaux au groove affirmé.

L’album bénéficie de la participation de musiciens de renom, tels que Paul Kossoff (Free) à la guitare sur le morceau "We’ve Got Time", et John 'Rabbit' Bundrick au piano sur plusieurs titres. Malgré son potentiel, le groupe se sépare peu après la sortie du disque. Uncle Dog was a British rock band formed in London in the autumn of 1971. Fronted by the powerful voice of Carol Grimes, the group merged blues-rock with folk and soul influences, delivering a sound deeply rooted in the musical trends of early 1970s Britain. Keyboardist and vocalist David Skinner, known from Twice As Much, added songwriting depth and harmonic textures to the band’s compositions.

Their sole album, Old Hat, was released in 1972 on Signpost Records. Though it received little commercial recognition at the time, the record has since become a hidden gem for collectors and connoisseurs of vintage British rock. It showcases a wide range of styles, from reflective ballads to rhythm-driven tracks with spirited instrumentation.

The album features guest appearances by notable musicians such as Paul Kossoff (Free), who plays lead guitar on "We've Got Time", and John 'Rabbit' Bundrick, contributing his talents on piano. The group disbanded shortly after the release. Carol Grimes pursued a solo career in soul and jazz, while John Porter became a well-respected producer in the music industry.
