Swampgas est un groupe Américain de Rock Psyché du début des années 70 originaire de Long Island dans l'état de New-York. En bref, il joue une sorte de Psych / Hard Rock Rural avec une guitare fluide et un orgue magistral. Ce quatuor de Rock était dirigé par le guitariste compositeur Baird Hersey, influencé par Hendrix. Le line up était composé, outre Hersey, du bassiste Jock Davis, du chanteur Kim Ornitz et du batteur Ricky Slater. Swampgas joua dans toute la région de New York. Ils furent été arrachés à l'obscurité par Artie Kornfeld, qui fut l'un des trois producteurs de Woodstock. La femme de Kornfeld les avait découvert, un jour, lors d'un concert où ils faisaient la première partie de the Gratetful Dead. 

Sorti en 1972 sur le label Buddah Records, Swampgas est un groupe américain méconnu, auteur d’un unique album éponyme. Originaire de New York, le quatuor navigue entre hard rock, psychédélisme et touches progressives, dans un style évoquant parfois les premiers Grand Funk Railroad ou Mountain. L’album propose une série de morceaux puissants, traversés par des riffs acérés, des lignes de basse robustes et des interventions d’orgue atmosphériques. Malgré un son accrocheur et une production soignée, Swampgas reste un joyau enfoui des années 70, prisé aujourd’hui par les collectionneurs de rock obscur et les amateurs de heavy psych.

Swampgas is an American group of Rock Psyche from the early 70's from Long Island, New York. In short, he plays a kind of Rural Psych / Hard Rock with a flowing guitar and a masterful organ. This Rock quartet was conducted by guitarist and composer Baird Hersey, influenced by Hendrix. The line up was composed, besides Hersey, bassist Jock Davis, singer Kim Ornitz and drummer Ricky Slater. Swampgas played throughout the New York area. They were pulled out in the dark by Artie Kornfeld, who was one of three Woodstock producers. Kornfeld's wife had discovered them one day at a concert where they were the first part of the Gratetful Dead.

Released in 1972 on Buddah Records, Swampgas was an obscure American rock band that produced only one self-titled album. Based in New York, the quartet delivered a hard-edged blend of psychedelic and progressive rock, occasionally recalling early Grand Funk Railroad or Mountain. The record features gritty guitar riffs, solid bass lines, and atmospheric organ flourishes, all wrapped in a heavy but melodic sound. Though overlooked at the time, Swampgas has since become a hidden gem among collectors of obscure 70s psych and hard rock.
