Originaire d'Allemagne, Eloy voit le jour en 1969 sous l'impulsion du guitariste-chanteur Frank Bornemann. Influencé au départ par le hard rock britannique (Deep Purple, Uriah Heep), le groupe développe très vite une personnalité propre, s’orientant vers le space rock et le rock progressif. Leur premier album éponyme, paru en 1971, mêle riffs lourds, orgue psychédélique et atmosphères planantes. Encore brut mais déjà prometteur, Eloy marque le point de départ d’une aventure sonore qui traversera les décennies.

Eloy, formed in 1969 in Germany by guitarist and vocalist Frank Bornemann, started out with a heavy rock sound influenced by British bands like Deep Purple and Uriah Heep. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1971, features hard-edged guitar riffs, swirling organ lines, and embryonic hints of spacey, progressive textures. While more grounded in bluesy hard rock than their later space rock epics, Eloy sets the foundation for one of Germany's most enduring and imaginative prog acts.
