Formé à la fin des années 60 à Lansing, Michigan, le groupe Magic est l’évolution ambitieuse d’un combo local nommé The Next Exit. Autour du guitariste-chanteur Mike “Beans” Murphy et du bassiste Duane King, la formation explore un rock psychédélique teinté de blues, de soul, et de folk-rock. Bien enraciné dans l’esprit post-hippie du Midwest, leur unique album est un témoignage d’une époque où les frontières musicales se dissolvent au profit d’une quête émotionnelle et spirituelle.

Magic was a late 1960s psych-blues rock band from Lansing, Michigan, founded by guitarist-vocalist Mike “Beans” Murphy and bassist-singer Duane King, previously members of The Next Exit. Joined by drummer K.J. Rester and keyboardist John Liacos, Magic recorded a singular self-titled album in 1971 for Motown’s Rare Earth label. Their music, blending soulful blues-rock with psychedelic and folk influences, reflects the raw, heartfelt spirit of the post-hippie Midwest underground.
