John David Hurley, born in Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1941, was a gifted American songwriter and singer who died prematurely in 1986. He gained recognition as half of the Hurley-Wilkins songwriting team, penning iconic songs such as Son of a Preacher Man and Love of the Common People. In addition to his writing talents, Hurley possessed a powerful and heartfelt voice. His 1971 album John Hurley Delivers One More Hallelujah remains a hidden gem—an emotionally charged blend of Southern gospel soul, folk, and poetic Americana.
