Long John Baldry was a British blues and rhythm and blues singer who was a pioneer of the British blues scene in the 1960s. He performed with Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated and Cyril Davies R&B All Stars, both seminal groups in the British blues movement. He also led his own band, The Hoochie Coochie Men, featuring members like Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck. In 1971, Baldry returned to his blues roots with the album It Ain’t Easy, co-produced by Rod Stewart and Elton John. This album, featuring the track "Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock and Roll," achieved notable success in the U.S., charting on the album charts. It also marked Baldry's debut tour in the United States. The band accompanying him included Micky Waller, Ian Armitt, Pete Sears, and Sammy Mitchell.
