Originaire d’Atlanta, Mose Jones est un groupe de rock sudiste atypique formé au début des années 70. Plutôt que d’opter pour un son rugueux à la Lynyrd Skynyrd, le quatuor privilégie un groove élégant, mêlant rock, soul, R&B, jazz et pop californienne. En 1973, ils sortent leur premier album Get Right sur le label Sound of the South, une filiale d’Atlantic Records dirigée par le producteur Buddy Buie (Atlanta Rhythm Section).
Porté par des harmonies vocales suaves, des claviers chaleureux et un jeu de guitare tout en finesse, Get Right évoque aussi bien Little Feat que Steely Dan ou The Doobie Brothers. Bien que confidentiel, l’album séduit par sa richesse d’arrangements et son éclectisme maîtrisé. Un disque raffiné et groovy, parfait reflet d’un Sud musical plus sophistiqué que caricatural.

Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Mose Jones emerged in the early 1970s with a smooth and soulful take on Southern rock. Rather than following the gritty blues-rock path of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mose Jones fused rock, jazz, R&B, and pop into a sophisticated sound. Their 1973 debut Get Right, released on Atlantic’s Sound of the South imprint, was produced by Buddy Buie, also known for his work with Atlanta Rhythm Section.
Filled with lush vocal harmonies, warm keyboard textures, and fluid guitar work, Get Right brings to mind the slick grooves of Steely Dan, Little Feat, or The Doobie Brothers. Though the album flew under the radar, it stands as an overlooked gem of polished Southern soul-rock.
