Gilbert O'Sullivan, de son vrai nom Raymond Edward O'Sullivan, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète irlandais né le 1er décembre 1946 à Waterford. Il s'installe en Angleterre à l'âge de sept ans et commence sa carrière musicale en 1967. Son premier succès majeur, "Nothing Rhymed", sort en 1970 et se classe dans le top 10 britannique. En 1971, il sort l'album Himself, qui inclut le tube "Alone Again (Naturally)". Cette chanson devient un immense succès international, se classant numéro un aux États-Unis pendant six semaines et obtenant trois nominations aux Grammy Awards. O'Sullivan est reconnu pour son style de piano percussif et ses paroles introspectives. Il a également remporté trois Ivor Novello Awards, dont celui de "Songwriter of the Year" en 1973. Malgré des différends avec son manager Gordon Mills, il continue à enregistrer et à se produire à l'international. En 2024, il reçoit la liberté de la ville de Waterford, rendant hommage à sa mère décédée.

Gilbert O'Sullivan, born Raymond Edward O'Sullivan on December 1, 1946, in Waterford, Ireland, is a singer-songwriter who began his music career in 1967. His first major hit, "Nothing Rhymed," was released in 1970 and charted in the UK top 10. In 1971, he released the album Himself, which includes the hit "Alone Again (Naturally)." This song became a massive international success, reaching number one in the U.S. for six weeks and earning three Grammy nominations.O'Sullivan is known for his percussive piano style and introspective lyrics. He has also won three Ivor Novello Awards, including "Songwriter of the Year" in 1973. Despite disputes with his manager Gordon Mills, he continues to record and perform internationally. In 2024, he was awarded the Freedom of the City of Waterford, paying tribute to his late mother.
